Dear holy people of god:

LENT is here! God’s healing spree is just around the corner. Yes, God’s love heals; it brings hope and life. A testimony of this is the leper’s story in our gospel today:

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.

Like the leper, “we all have wounds, all of us: spiritual wounds, sins, hard feelings, jealousies, greed and people that we have decided never to speak to again.” These wounds, although not leprosy, destroy our dignity and honor, and they need to be healed, too. Like the leper, whenever we cling to Jesus with faith, our life’s immeasurable worth shines; and whenever we open our hearts to him with humility, Jesus cannot turn his back on us. In those situations, Jesus brings out how precious God’s gift of life truly is, and how much he loves us.

Today, as Jesus clean the unclean; let us make this week a MIRACLE WEEK by cleaning our hearts with the following spiritual schedules of activities that give us spiritual nourishment:

ASH WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 14th is a day of FASTING and ABSTINENCE!

FASTING is observed on ASH WEDNESDAY and on GOOD FRIDAY. One full meal or two smaller meals may be taken in order to maintain health. No solid foods between meals. ABSTINENCE from meat is observed on ASH WEDNESDAY and ALL FRIDAYS of LENT.

Continues Distribution of ASHES until 9:00 p.m.

6:30 a.m. Mass – Blessing and Distribution of Ashes 8:00 a.m. Mass with Distribution of Ashes

5:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Word and Distribution of Ashes (Maher Hall) 7:00 p.m. Mass with Distribution of Ashes

7:00 p.m. Spanish Mass with Distribution of Ashes (Maher Hall)

STATIONS of the CROSS: all Fridays of LENT at 7:30 p.m. February 16th, February 23rd, March 2nd, March 9th,

March 16th, March 23rd and March 30th.

PENANCE SERVICE: Tuesday, March 13th at 7:00 p.m.

What is fasting?

Did you know that fasting AND abstinence is only required of Catholics on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday? Abstain from meat (14 years+) and eat only one meal, with two smaller ones spaced throughout the day. No eating between meals. Those who suffer from hypoglycemia, diabetes or other medical conditions are not required to fast at all. For fasting, you need to be between the ages of 14 and 60. But fasting can involve more than the stomach - fasting can also FILL us and bring us closer to God; fasting can increase our self-control, loosen the grasp of unhealthy habits and rearrange our priorities.
