“Be thoughtful - be silent - be reverent; for this is the house of the Lord. Before the service, speak to the Lord; During the service, let the Lord speak to you; After the service, speak to one another.”

PRAYER BEFORE DIVINE WORSHIP
O gracious God, You have graciously kept me during this past year, preserving
my going out and my coming in. Grant that I may also spend this coming year’s service
in Your fear and grace. Grant me Your Holy Spirit that I may gladly hear and learn Your
Word. Open my heart that I may listen to it and receive it within me; through Jesus
Christ, my only Redeemer and Savior. Amen.
ORDER OF DIVINE WORSHIP

Invocation
Pastor: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Response: Amen.
Confession and Absolution (based on Psalm 111, ESV)
Pastor: I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
Response: In the company of the upright, in the congregation.
Pastor: Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.
Response: Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness
endures forever.
Pastor: He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered;
Response: The Lord is gracious and merciful.

Pastor: Let us confess our sin to God, our Merciful Father.
Response: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things,
Judge of all people, we admit and confess our sinfulness. We have
turned away from each other in our thinking, speaking and doing.
We have done the evil you forbid and have not done the good you
demand. We do repent and are truly sorry for these our sins. Have
mercy on us, kind Father, because of the obedience of your Son,
our Savior born in Bethlehem, Jesus Christ, the Lord. Forgive us all
that is past; and with the power of the Holy Spirit empower us to
declare your righteousness to the ends of the earth.
Pastor: God has promised forgiveness of sins to those who repent and turn to
him. May he keep you in grace by the Holy Spirit, lead you to greater faith
and witness, and bring you to live with him forever, in the Name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Response: Amen.
Litany of Response (Psalm 111, ESV)
Pastor: The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are
trustworthy;
Response: They are established forever and ever, to be performed with
faithfulness and uprightness.
ALL: Praise the Lord!
Pastor: He sent redemption to his people;
Response: He has commanded his covenant forever.
ALL: Holy and awesome is his name!
Pastor: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
Response: All those who practice it have a good understanding.
ALL: His praise endures forever!

Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy
Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again
from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the
Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion
of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen.
Hymn of the Day, 387: “Joy to the World”
Sermon: “So, Now What Happens”……………………………………...……Luke 2:39-40

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is heaven; Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil; For thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
