WHY SHOULD I RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION?

“The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy

Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and

deed.” Catechism of the Catholic Church

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

March 10, at the 10:30 a.m. Mass, the R. C. I. A. Catechumens (the unbaptized) will celebrate the Rite of Sending.

At the 12:15 p.m. Mass, March 10, the R. C. I. A. Catechumens will celebrate The Rite of Sending.

Monday, March 11, our Catechumens will celebrate the Rite of Election with Bishop Daniel Garcia at

Old Mission Church, San Luis Obispo.

This begins the period of Purification and Enlightenment, the Lenten season, which will strengthen the newly Elect

(they a no longer called Catechumens) as they journey to the Easter Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

This is also the time for the Elect to go deeper into their spiritual journey as they approach the

three Sacraments of Initiation.

If you attend the Rite of Sending, take some time to reflect on your experience and share it with your family or a friend.

1. What moved you in the Rite of Sending? 2. What did the Rite say to you about who God is, what the Church

is, and what it means to be elected by God? 3. What is one way God is inviting you to live in Christ’s light more

fully? 4. Take a moment to ask God for this grace.

Please continue to pray for these adults as they continue to grow in faith and understanding.

LOS ESPECTÁCULOS INTERIORES En este tercer Domingo de lecturas del Sermón del Llano, Jesús habla del alma interior y sus expresiones exteriores. Usa imágenes para enseñar. Nos habla a todos nosotros. Jesús ve un cable que conecta el alma con las expresiones del alma, palabras y hechos. Usa un poco de exageración para recalcar el punto. Nos urge a limpiar toda la basura que nos hace ciegos. Sabe que tenemos una tremenda habilidad para cegarnos ante nuestras propias debilidades, aunque sean tan grandes como una viga. Sabe, también, lo dispuestos que estamos a sacar a relucir los fallos de los demás por minúsculos que sean. Y también esto es para el consumo general nuestro; lo bueno sólido y lo malo sólido eventualmente saldrá a relucir. Hay un dicho en latín que hace eco de las imágenes de Jesús, y es muy cierto: “Lo que se engendra en el hueso se mostrará en la carne”. Al fin y al cabo, lo interior saldrá afuera.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Cuando era niño mi padre me llevaba al rancho de mi abuelito en México. En una de esas visitas mi abuelo y mis tíos estaban quemando la tierra en su rancho. Mientras el fuego ardía, papa Manuel nos explicaba que era necesario reducir todo en cenizas para que la tierra recobrara sus fuerzas y quedará más fértil. Sin saberlo, mi abuelo me dio la imagen que hasta hoy sostiene mi concepto del Miércoles de Cenizas y de la Cuaresma. El Miércoles de Cenizas es la fiesta cristiana que por lo menos doce siglos ha señalado el comienzo de la Cuaresma. No cabe duda que para los latinos este día es de particular atracción. Es uno de los pocos días del año litúrgico en cual llegamos al templo en masa con tal de recibir las cenizas en la frente. Nosotros somos un pueblo enraizado en la tierra y sabemos que la tierra necesita quemarse de vez en cuando para seguir produciendo. Nosotros como la tierra necesitamos dominarnos y cultivarnos para producir frutos y flores para el Señor y los demás.

Estimados feligreses de la parroquia de San Patricio

Que la paz de Jesucristo esté siempre con ustedes.

En las últimas semanas he tenido varias conversaciones con ambos Padre Beto y Padre Russ acerca de sus respectivas necesidades en servicio a la gente de nuestra Diócesis. Hemos tomado la decisión de que sería mejor para el Padre Russ participar en el ministerio sacerdotal en otro entorno pastoral en este momento de su ministerio. Pronto regresará a la Misión de San Luis Obispo para apoyar a las iglesias del sur de nuestra diócesis a través de la predicación y la enseñanza. La Diócesis de Monterey agradece al Padre Russ los muchos años de ministerio sacerdotal y nosotros lo apoyamos más durante este tiempo que aprovecha para discernir su futuro, ya sea en el ministerio de tiempo completo o parcial. Agradecemos su tiempo en la parroquia de San Patricio y el servicio a la Misión. Esperamos que continúen manteniéndolo en sus oraciones. También les pedimos su continuo apoyo al Padre Beto Vásquez como pastor de la Iglesia de San Patricio.

I.C.F. LENTEN FISH FRIES Fish Fries begin on March 8th

The St. Patrick's Italian Catholic Federation (I.C.F.) will be hosting five Fish Fries during Lent. Mark your calendar and

join us for a delicious fish & chips and coleslaw dinner. Fish fries will be held on the following Fridays:

March 8, March 22, March 29, April 5 and April 12 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the parish hall

Prices range from $8 for a 1-piece fish dinner to $15 for a 3-piece fish dinner. Take-outs will be available. Beer, wine, soda and bottled water will be available for

purchase and desserts will be available for a donation.
