During this pandemic many of us have found ourselves unemployed. It might have been during a short furlough or maybe a longer period that is continuing. Being unemployed is financially stressful. A number of years ago I left a company that I had worked at for most of my career for what I thought was a better opportunity, but after being at this new company for a period of time I learned the environment was very hostile. My wife and I felt it would be best for me to quit this position even with not having another job to start. I also knew we were entering an economic down turn and not many companies would be hiring in my industry. For the first time in my career I was not receiving any type of income and did not know how I was going to earn an income, it was scary. I tell this only to help imagine how the laborers who waited all day to be hired in today's Gospel must have felt. It had to also be humbling standing in the public marketplace as the day was coming to a close looking as though they were not going have any form of income and others seeing them there. Yet we can also see that they didn't give up, they were still hoping for an opportunity and the opportunity that did come was actually better than they anticipated. In today Gospel, Jesus tells us that the kingdom of heaven is like the parable of the landowner. The landowner represents God the Father and we hear of His generosity. God's generosity is not always understood by us because He doesn't always give us what we want or think we should have, but he does give us what we need. What we need more than anything else in our life is his love. His great love is given to each of us, we don't earn it, we just need to be open to receive it. This does require for us to be humble enough to know we need His love for our well being. As we grow in his love we know he is always with us and as we go through tough times he is there to help us along the way. Again not giving us what we want, but to give us what we need, we just need to continue to be open and trust that he will provide for us. We also need to realize that tough times are opportunities to grow closer to God our Father, through His Son who has given us the Church. We also have been given the Holy Spirit to help us. All of us who have been baptized have been reborn into God's family, we share in the inheritance of His kingdom which so much more than being a laborer. It is more than what the world can provide for us because God's love is everlasting and we can live in his love even when we leave this world. So as we go through this pandemic and deal with uncertain times. What we can learn from this parable is that we can count on God's generosity. Not as something we earn, but to remain open to his love through prayer, going to confession and receiving the Eucharist, along with being humble, and persistent. God's way may not be our way which means we might need to make a change in our careers and life so we will not be distracted from His love. If we trust in Him, He will provide, and we will come to learn what He provides is more than we could have ever imagined.

    God Bless,

    Deacon Lou

  • Family Faith at Home

As we honor all catechists on this Catechetical Sunday, we pray for the parents of our PREP children who are the “first catechists” to their children by word and example. We offer prayers of blessing to our parents as they fulfill their mission as catechists this year.

    Catechetical Sunday Thank you, Catechists!

Today, September 20th, the Church throughout the United States celebrates Catechetical Sunday. The theme for this year is “I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you”. We take a moment to thank God for the gift of His Word and teaching that is for all of us…child and adult. We thank God also for inviting us into relationship with Him through prayer and knowledge of Him. But God uses us, His human creatures, to be His hands, eyes and heart on earth. And so, the faith needs to be taught and passed on from one generation to the next. Therefore, it is especially important to thank and honor those men and women from St. Patrick Parish who offer their time, talent, lived faith and love of God to our parish children…our teachers of the faith. Thanks to all of you who said “YES” to this ministry in our parish! May God bless you!

ST. PATRICK PARISH SEPTEMBER 20, 2020 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

  • ST. PATRICK PARISH SEPTEMBER 20, 2020 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

St. Patrick Parish selected for a special initiative,

a Next Generation Parish! St. Patrick Parish is one of 15 parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia selected to participate in a 4 year planning initiative, a Next Generation Parish, designed by Catholic Leadership Institute to support the Church’s journey into tomorrow. Over the next four years, Catholic Leadership Institute will partner with St. Patrick’s to:

    • Comprehensively ASSESS the parish health, culture, and effectiveness

    • ENVISION the future by creating a parish plan with priorities and goals

    • TRAIN & SUPPORT priests, staff, and parishioners in leadership and evangelization

    • EMPOWER parishes to sustain and expand their pool of leaders

    • MEASURE impact, REFINE plans, and CELEBRATE successes

The first step in this process is a parish survey about discipleship and we need your help!

Beginning the weekend of October 17th and 18th, you are invited to complete a 10-15 minute survey. You will be asked to reflect on your own spiritual growth and enable you to provide feedback on our parish’s efforts to help you grow. All responses will be confidential and the parish will only receive information about the community as whole.

We are hoping to maximize our response rate to increase the accuracy of the collected data. This information will be invaluable to Father Redcay and our various ministries as we plan for the future and strive to be the best disciples we can be.

If you prefer a paper copy you may pick up a paper copy of the survey after daily and Sunday Masses . We’ll have more details about obtaining them in the coming weeks.

Thank you for helping with this important project!

Walking with Purpose is excited to get started with this year's study:

    Keeping in Balance!

Do you feel pulled in many directions? Do you find it hard to balance the demands placed on your time? Is it difficult to manage all the details thrown your way? God wants to support and help us so that we can be our best in every season of our lives. If you answered yes to these questions, Walking with Purpose Keeping in Balance study is for you!

This study, open to all women in the parish, will begin October 6, 7, 8th, with a hybrid model. We will meet IN PERSON, in the Church, for all Connect Coffee weeks, (once a month), observing the same social distancing and mask protocols that are in place for Mass. We hope to offer livestream for those that can not attend in person on those weeks. For now, small group discussions will be taking place VIRTUALLY, until we can meet safely on the parish campus.

There will be 3 options for meeting times this year! Each session will come together as a larger group, on Zoom, then break out into small groups for discussion.

Walking with Purpose will be offered on:

    • Tuesdays mornings, 10:15 AM-11:15 AM

    • Wednesday afternoons, 1:30 PM-2:30 PM

    • Thursday evenings, 7:30 PM -8:30 PM If you’d like to participate, please be sure to order your book today, as there is already a back order due to shipping delays.
