Dear St. Michael’s Parishioners & Friends, Well, our Lenten time of prayer, fasting and alms giving are coming to an end. This week, the Church en-ters the most solemn period of timeHoly Week, and today, we begin with Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion. We commemorate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusa-lem where he would ultimately suffer, be executed and be resurrected three days after. It is a most wonderful time for all Christians, as we strive to more deeply walk with Jesus in prayer as he accomplishes his life’s mission and purposethrough the Paschal Mysterywhich of course, restores us in a new and unending covenant with God and assures us that never more will sin or even death have final sway. I hope that everyone in the parish will really try extra hard to make it a point to attend the vari-ous Holy Week liturgies which we have. The Sacred Triduum, as it is called, draws us in to the final days of Jesus life, and brings us to the remarkbale joy of Easter! Please be sure to double check the times for all the up-coming services here and be sure to invite and welcome others to join with you! I urge all in the parish to please be sure to stop in and spend some meaningful time in prayer with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrmanet during our ongoing Forty Hour Devotion. It is a special time of quiet, peaceful prayer in church with Jesus in the Eucharist, for an uninterrupted time from Sunday evening until Tuesday evening, with a closing Mass at 5:30 pm. Please be sure to tell all your family and friends to stop in too and pray. It is impera-tive that each of the hours be covered, so if you signed up, please be sure to keep your appointment with Jesus! I hope that everyone is looking forward to our upcoming COVERED DISH SUPPER this Holy Thurs-day evening, after our Holy Thursday Mass. Be sure to bring a dish to share so we can all enjoy the mean and one another’s company. It is always a really fun evening, and a great way for us to enjoy some much needed fellow-ship and hospitality after a long and cold winter! ALL are welcome! Please join us! I thank all who have already taken the yellow Easter memorial flower tags already and invite all those who have not yet, to please do so! Every Easter, this is a great way for all in our parish to help “decorate” the church by donating a lovely Easter plant/flower in honor or memory of loved oneseither living or deceasedand to help ensure that our church looks beautiful for our Easter celebration. Please drop off all Easter flowers and plants in the school meeting room no later than Good Friday so we can properly decorate! Thanks With Easter just one week away, and this week-end being Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion, it’s a good bet that we will have more folks joining us for our Mass-es. Please be sure to welcome them all warmly! God Bless!

Jim Gorman, Pastoral Associate for Faith FormationMary Stearns, RCIA & Adult Confirmation Coordinator

FAITH FORMATION NOTESRead the Gospel:Mark 14:115:47

Mark’s account of the Passion is the shortest of the Gospel ac-

counts and is known for its swi impact and drama. It begins

with an unnamed woman pouring costly perfumed oil on Jesus’

head and includes accounts of the Last Supper, Jesus and his

disciples praying in Gethsemane, Jesus’ arrest, his trial, Cruci-

fixion, Death, and burial.

The Gospel story told today further unfolds in the liturgies of

Holy Thursday evening and Good Friday. The Triduum (Holy

Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Vigil/Easter

Sunday) is the Church’s annual retreat 6me. It is a 6me to tell

the story of the Paschal Mysterythe suffering, Death, and

Resurrec6on of Jesus Christ. The story is told through lavish use

of song, Scripture, symbol, Sacrament, and procession. This is

the holiest 6me of the en6re Church year. How will your family

spend these holiest of days? As Holy Week begins, make room

on the family calendar for quiet and prayer together, and make

6me to a<end the liturgies of the Triduum.

If you are unable to a<end your parish’s celebra6on of the

Triduum, gather your family and read aloud the appropriate

por6ons of today’s Gospel on Holy Thursday evening and on

Good Friday. Sing a simple refrain or hymn such as “Jesus, Re-

member Me” and spend a few moments together in silent

prayer

DISCUSSION STARTERS1. On Holy Thursday:On this night, Jesus gathered together

his closest friendshis disciplesto share a special meal.

If you were holding a special meal tonight, what friends

would you invite and why? What foods would you serve?

What would you talk about?

2. On Good Friday:On this day, Jesus suffered and died on

the Cross out of love for us. What does it mean to you that

he did this? Who are those suffering in the world, in your

workplace, in your classroom, and in your family today?

How can you ease their suffering?

3. On Holy Saturday:Jesus is in the tomb. His friends are try-

ing to make sense of what has happened. They cannot see

the coming of the Resurrec6on. Today is a day for wai6ng

FORTY HOURS DEVOTION:

Our FORTY HOURS devotion begins after the 5:30 PM Mass THIS Sunday evening! This is a tradition where Jesus, is exposed in the mon-strance on the altar for 40 hours. This is a spe-cial time of prayer and reflection with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Please spend an hour (or more) with Je-sus in quiet prayer, reflection and peace. NOTE: Every hour must be covered. ALL parish families, including youth and children, as well as all our parish organizations are urged to come and make a holy hour. Parents, this is a GREAT way to teach your children about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharistcatechists, this is an ideal way to connect les-son plans in the classroom with a real life “field trip” to the church to spend time in prayer! I ask that all those in any of our parish minis-tries, and especially the Knights of Columbus

and Rosary Altar Society, be sure to sign up to come and pray and bask in God’s gift of love in Jesus. We need to have at least one or two people in church at all times while the Blessed Sacrament is on the altar in the monstrance. Please tell your family, neighbors, co workers, classmates, and all others to join us for this special time of prayer and grace. It be-gins at 6:30 pm on Palm Sunday night and con-tinues uninterrupted until a closing Mass in celebration of the Forty Hours on Tuesday of Holy Week at 5:30 pm. ALL ARE WELCOME!

ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO THEM: In the

charity of your prayers, please

pray for the repose of the souls

of those who have recently died:

May he rest in the peace of Heaven.
