WORSHIP

PATRIOTIC ROSARY Thursday, December 1 7:00 p.m. in St Catherine Laboure Room (7) Join with your fellow parishioners as we pray this

meaningful prayer for our country. Bring your family, your friends, and your rosary.

Our parish Reconciliation Service for Advent will be held this coming Wednesday, Nov 30. Starting at 5:45 p.m., Deacon Rafael will present a video on the Sacrament of Reconciliation followed by a short discus-sion. The key messages from the video relate to feelings we have at times of being lost and alone, isolated in guilt. Like the Prodigal Son among the pigs, we know that we have sinned. But God won’t leave us there—he searches for us and runs to welcome us home in the Sac-rament of Reconciliation. This will be a great way to pre-pare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Fr. Chris has invited about 10 priests to assist with Confessions starting about 6:30 p.m.

An Invitation to All Grieving Families from Father Chris Father Chris would like to invite family members who have lost a loved one to a special event at St. Matthias on Saturday, December 10th, 2016. Please join Father at the 5pm Mass and bring an ornament in remembrance of your loved one to be placed on the Christmas tree in the Sanc-tuary. After Mass, an informal "pot luck" supper will be held in the parish hall and you are asked to bring a dish that was a favorite of your loved one. A slideshow of remembrance will pay tribute to your special family member. If you would like a picture(s) of your loved one included in the presentation, please bring photos to the church office to be scanned and returned, or email a copy to [email protected]. If a photo is not available, they will still be honored by name in the slideshow. Photos need to be received by Friday, No-vember 28th. Father Chris hopes to reconnect with all the grieving families who attend and he will end the evening with prayer and words of encouragement for all. Please call the church office at 281-356-2000 if you wish to attend this special event.

A Great Use for your Spare Change! Do you have extra change weighing down your pockets? The Capital Campaign’s Fundraising Team is here to help! We have coin banks (in the shape of a church) for your home… a fun & easy way to support our dream of a new church. Coin banks (and a plastic bag) will be available for pickup Decem-ber 3 and 4 after all masses and then available in the church office. When your coin bank is full, transfer the change to the plastic bag, put your name, phone number, address and enve-lope number on it and simply return it to the parish office or give it to an usher before or after mass… and then repeat! You can keep the bank at home and continue to fill it as long as de-sired helping our parish realize its dream along the way.

Even if you have already pledged, you are welcome to join this fun opportunity. Remember, no amount is too small. Over a 3 year period, all the change we collect will make a huge differ-ence. The children of our parish have collected over $5,000 in just 8 months…imagine what whole families can raise in 3 years! Thank you in advance for your continuous support for our wonderful parish family!

Are there different types of petitions for a decla-ration of nullity?

Yes. it is the function of the Case Sponsor to deter-mine what type of petition you must complete. The most com-mon petitions are a Formal petition, an Absence of Canonical Form petition, and a Prior Bond (Ligamen) petition. There are different procedures for the different types of petitions. Your priest or Case Sponsor will assist you. If you have any questions, please call the parish office to make an appointment with Fr Chris or contact the sponsors: Kathleen Oates (English) 281-356-6294 or Deacon Rafael Millet (Spanish) 281-324-0559

St. Vincent de Paul

As we approach the season of the birth of our Lord, it is time once again for the annual St. Vincent De Paul “Giving Tree”. The Giving Tree helps the children of the families that St. Vincent de Paul feeds during the year. Our tree is located in the parish hall this year and contains tags from children with items they would appreciate for Christmas. It includes some generic tags for children who were not able to sign up. You do not have to buy everything on the tag, they are just suggestions and ideas of what the children would like. Please wrap your gifts, tag them with the child’s name and family name, and return them to church by December 9.

May the blessings of the baby Jesus be with you and your families for your support. If you have any questions or are willing to help sort and hand out the gifts, please call Debbie Stachowiak at 281-356-3615.

Parish Festival and Trail Ride Honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe On Sunday, December 11, starting after the 10:30 Mass until 6pm, a group of dedicated parishioners are planning an afternoon of His-panic bands, good food, and activities for the kids, highlighted by a horse parade honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe. All proceeds from this event will go toward our new church. Fr. Chris will bless the parade of over 100 hors-es as it arrives at our parish about 2:30 p.m. If you and your horse would like to participate in the trail ride, contact Pablo Vásquez at 281-808-6484 or Cruz Romero at 713-875 for details. On Dec 11, parishioners attending the 10:30 am Mass will be directed to park either in front of the church or at the 6th grade campus next door to allow parking in our back lot for those participating in the trail ride.

Bazaar Committee Meeting on Dec 15 Yep. It’s time to get started planning our 2017 parish bazaar. This great family event is also, by far, our biggest fund raiser of the year. The first

meeting of the bazaar committee will be on Thursday, Dec 15, at 7pm in the St. Mary room (13/14). If you are interested in helping plan the 2017 bazaar, please contact the parish office at 281-356-2000 or just show up at the meeting. Just a reminder that our live and silent auctions will be looking for donations of items to auction. As you shop for the holidays, keep an eye out for good deals on items that you could donate and would do well in one of our auctions.

Order Your Holiday Briskets, $60 Be ready for family and friends to drop by this holiday season with a Holiday Brisket from our

Knights of Columbus Council.

You can pre-order your briskets for $60 each after the weekend Masses. Orders must be received by December 4 and only pre-ordered briskets will be guaranteed. All proceeds from our Holiday Brisket Sale support the charities sponsored by the Knights including our scholarship fund. Briskets will be avail-able for pick-up after all Masses on Sunday, December 11.

SAINTLY CORNER St. Andrew was the first disciple of Jesus. He was the younger brother of St. Peter and they were fishermen by trade. It is believed that St. Andrew and St. Peter con-tinued their trade until Christ called them to a closer relationship and they left all things to follow Jesus. After Christ crucifixion and resurrection, St. Andrew preached the gospel in Asia Minor and Scythia as far as Kiev. He was martyred by crucifixion in Greece. He deemed himself unworthy to be crucified on the same type of cross as Christ had been crucified, he asked to be tied to an X shaped cross. Andrew did not die right away, but instead was left to suffer for two days while he continued to preach the gospels until he finally died. He is the patron saint of Scotland, Russia and Greece. His feast day is November 30th. CCE RESUMES CCE classes resume on Wednesday, November 30th and Sunday, December 4th. HELP IS NEEDED • Are you willing to spare about 20 minutes of your

time on a Sunday morning? We are trying to build a team to take turns to facilitate Children’s Liturgy at the 10:30 Mass. We only need two more volunteers to help out in this important ministry. With four vol-unteers it would only be one time a month and you can pick the date you want.

• Wednesday nights are still lacking small group lead-ers. Are you willing to help lead a discussion with teens for a 30 minute session? All questions are pro-vided.

• There is also a great need for men to help with secu-rity on Wednesday nights. Safety has always been our #1 concern and we have over 200 students on any given Wednesday.

If you have any additional questions about any of our needs, please call the RE Department. SACRAMENTS Parents of children that will be receiving their First Reconciliation and Communion in the spring MUST ATTEND the mandatory sacrament information meeting on Thursday, December 1st at 7pm. This meet-ing is for parents only. The necessary books will be available for purchase that evening and all important information will be handed out. CALLING ALL CHILDREN We are on the lookout for children to participate in the annual Nativity Play at the Christmas Eve children’s Mass. If you would like your child to participate, please contact the RE office as soon as possible to sign up. Parts are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. The children’s Mass is Christmas Eve at 4pm.

Project Gabriel Helps Pregnant Mothers in Crisis The Project Gabriel ministry helps pregnant mothers in crises by collecting and provide to pregnant mothers new or gently used items to help them care for their babies. These items are often too expensive for expectant mothers. Your donations of almost anything to help care for a baby or infant items (new or gently used with no stains) will greatly help those in need. Items that will help include: clothes, socks, or shoes; toys; crib blankets; feeding bottles and bibs; receiving blankets; cloth or disposable diapers; diaper bags; wipes; bathing sup-plies; combs and brushes; carriers; highchairs; changing tables; mats; bathtubs. Our most urgent needs are cribs, play pens, and strollers. Please drop donation in the boxes in the Narthex, parish hall, or CCE hallway or bring them to the parish office. If you have questions or feel called to help this ministry, please contact: Aimee Marlborough, 225-229-2479 or Danica Vassigh, 832-515-8463. Thank you for your support!
