Oremus pro invicem. “Let us pray for each other.”

Lent is off and running and I hope everyone is finding time to grow spiritually and take full advantage of our Lent schedule. The meatless Lenten meal was very well attended and of course it is good for us to come together as a parish family, like any family, to pray and share a meal. Every Friday through March 18th we will meet in the Lyceum (313 Duke Street) at 6 P.M. for a light meal and then head over to Church for the Stations of the Cross and confessions, both beginning at 7 P.M. Every third Friday of the month we will have a Mass in the Extraordinary form offered by Father James Bradley of the Anglican Ordinariate.

The Light is on for you every Wednesday with the sacrament of Penance offered from 6:30-8 P.M. We will have a modified Holy Hour, with Rosary at 7 P.M., novena prayers silently on your own and then the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 7:40 P.M.

Several upcoming events to plan on attending if you are able…

We will also begin bi-monthly “Mercy Masses” for the Year of Mercy beginning in March to make us more aware of God’s mercy acting in our lives and the lives of our fellow parishioners…More details to follow.

Mark your calendars for Mass in honor of Saint Patrick on Saturday March 5th at 8:30 A.M. before the City’s Annual parade. The AOH will sponsor a coffee afterward in the Lyceum.

Tickets on Sale this week after all the Masses for our First Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Dinner and Hooley Sunday March 13th at 6 P.M. in the school gym. Food, beverages catered by Murphy’s Irish Pub and entertainment organized by Pat Troy. $25 per adult, children under 12 free. All proceeds to benefit the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in their work of helping the less fortunate to stay in their homes, offering assistance for rent, mortgage and utility bills. Tickets also available through the parish and school offices. If you’d like to attend, please plan on purchasing your tickets soon, as space is limited.

A blessed Lent!

there is a chance for mercy.”

Christian faith and the peoples of Asia.

2016 BISHOP’S LENTEN APPEAL BEGINS!

Go forth as heralds of God’s mercy!

The Bishop’s Lenten Appeal is in full swing and we are asking every household in our parish to support this appeal to the extent that they are able. The BLA funds many programs, services and ministries

that serve people in need and further Jesus’ Mission in our diocese. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, let’s join together to do

the Lord’s work – works that touch the lives and souls of thousands of people in our diocese. Thank you!

PRAY DURING 40 DAYS FOR LIFESPRING CAMPAIGN! Volunteer for a weekly hour or more during the vigil between February 10 and March 20. St. Mary’s will participate in the vigil at the Alexandria Women’s Health Clinic at 101 S. Whiting St. near Landmark Mall. No formal sign-up is required – come and pray to be a visible witness to the sanctity of human life. For questions, signs, literature, please contact Sara Dina of 40 Days for Life at 571.218.6224.

THE LEGION OF MARY invites men and women who desire to grow closer to Jesus, to join them Monday evenings at 7:35 P.M. in the St. Ann & Joachim Room of the Lyceum. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members. Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor. Fr. Andrew Haissig serves as spiritual director.

DIVINE MERCY CORNER

Prayer to the Divine Mercy O Lord, behold here before You a soul who exists in this world in order to allow You to exercise Your admirable MERCY and manifest it before heaven and earth. Others may glorify You through their faithfulness and perseverance, thus making evident the power of Your grace. How sweet and generous You are to those who are faithful to You!

Nevertheless, I will glorify You by acquainting others of Your goodness to sinners and by reminding them that Your MERCY is above all malice, that nothing can exhaust it, and that no relapse, no matter how shameful or criminal,

should allow the sinner to despair of forgiveness.

I have offended You grievously, O Beloved Redeemer, but it would be still worse if I were to offend You by thinking that You were lacking in goodness to forgive me. I would rather He deprive me of everything else than the TRUST I have in Your Mercy.

Should I fall a hundred times or should my crimes be a hundred times worse that they actually are, I would continue to trust in Your MERCY. Amen.

“Therefore, be constant in practicing every virtue, and especially in imitating the patience of our dear Jesus, for this is the summit of pure love. Live in such a way that all may know that you bear outwardly as well as inwardly the image of Christ crucified, the model of all gentleness and mercy. For if a man is united inwardly with the Son of the living God, he also bears his likeness outwardly by his continual practice of heroic goodness, and especially through a patience reinforced by courage, which does not complain either secretly or in public. Conceal

yourselves in Jesus crucified, and hope for nothing except that all men be thoroughly converted to his will.”

- from a letter by Saint Paul of the Cross
