Oremus pro invicem. “Let us pray for each other.”

Thy Kingdom Come!

In addition to Christ’s coming in history, Advent is also a time of preparing for Christ’s coming in majesty at the end of time. In glory, Jesus Christ will display definitively His kingship and power over all creation, nations and peoples. Since Christ’s disciples know not the day nor the hour of His return, they are to live in a state of joyful expectation and vigilance in virtue. It is good, therefore, to remember the value of the Sacrament of Penance in maintaining the purity of our soul despite our frequent sins and failings. Yes, God invites us to seek perfection and holiness but He also provides the remedy when we turn from the way of perfection toward our sinful inclinations. Please take advantage of the confession times that this Advent season offers to receive God’s gift of mercy and healing waiting for you in the Sacrament of Penance.

Lessons and Carols

I would like to extend to all of you a cordial invitation to attend our parish’s Lessons and Carols service this Sunday, December 13th at 7:30 P.M. in the Church. This is a service comprised of beautiful Advent and Christmas anthems, and traditional carols intended to inspire within us prayerful thoughts of the true meaning of this holy season - the birth of the Son of God, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We will also bid farewell to our faithful music director, Charlie Saik as he retires from Saint Mary’s after many years of faithful service. I hope you and your families can join us.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

PRO-LIFE CORNER

PRAYER IN TIME OF SICKNESS O Jesus, You suffered and died for us.

You understand suffering. Teach me to understand my suffering as You do; to bear it in union with You; to offer it with You to atone for my sins and to bring

Your grace to souls in need. Calm my fears; increase my trust. May I gladly accept Your holy will and become more like You in trial. If it be Your will,

restore me to health so that I may work for Your honor and glory and the salvation of all men. Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

DIVINE MERCY CORNER

“My child, life on earth is a struggle indeed; a great struggle for My kingdom. But fear

not, because you are not alone. I am always supporting you, so lean on Me as you

struggle, fearing nothing. Take the vessel of trust and draw from the fountain of life--for yourself, but also for other souls, especially

such as are distrustful of My goodness.”

(Jesus to St. Faustina, Diary 785)

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS: Since 1795, the decoration of our church and sanctuary has been an important expression of the joyful celebration of Christmas. With a rich heritage of more than two centuries, St. Mary Catholic Church has a more distinctly historic appearance. In keeping with this history and the liturgical calendar, the Mary Martha Guild will install Christmas decorations on December 24th 2015, to remain through January 10th, 2016, when the Church returns to Ordinary Time. Decorations will include native berries, greens and flowers, accented by beautiful poinsettias, which were first introduced to the Commonwealth in 1811 by Elizabeth and James Monroe. Our church decorations, flowers and vintage crèche figures, designed to give glory to “our newborn King,” also remind us of the great gift of the Catholic faith our ancestors have handed down to us. To protect and preserve Christmas decorations for future generations, we ask everyone to please refrain from touching the crèche figures, Christmas decorations and floral arrangements – instead, let them prayerfully touch you.

THE LEGION OF MARY invites men and women who desire to grow closer to Jesus, to join them Monday evenings at 7:35 P.M. in the St. Ann & Joachim Room of the Lyceum. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members. Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor. Fr. Andrew Haissig serves as spiritual director.
