The word Eucharistcomes from the Greek meaning thanksgiving. Thus, the heart of every Eucharistic experience is gratitude. During the Eucharist, we express our thankfulness for what God has done for us as we offer our very own lives, symbol- ized through the gifts of bread and wine, as signs of our grat- itude for creation and his redemption of humanity. At the end of the Mass, when we go forth "to glorify the Lord by our lives”, we are truly equipped to better love our neighbours. In turn, the congregation responds "thanks be to God". If we take this mandate seriously, it naturally leads us to become more thankful for all the blessings in our lives. Rev. Why do we celebrate Thanks-giving in October? On January 31 1957, Parliament proclaimed “a day of general thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bounti-ful harvest with which Canada has been blessed – to be ob-served on the 2nd Monday in October”. With Thanksgiving on October 12, it is a time to once again thank God for all the blessings he has bestowed up-on us. To celebrate, we invite family and friends to rejoice with a suitable feast.

While Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on one day, Catho-lics celebrate Thanksgiving every time we celebrate the “Eucharist”, which is another word for the celebration we call the Mass. The word “Eucharist” comes from the Greek meaning “thanksgiving.” Thus, the heart of every Eucharistic experience is gratitude. During the Eucharist, we express our thankfulness for what God has done for us as we offer our very own lives, symbol-ized through the gifts of bread and wine, as signs of our grat-itude for creation and his redemption of humanity. At the end of the Mass, when we go forth "to glorify the Lord by our lives”, we are truly equipped to better love our neighbours. In turn, the congregation responds "thanks be to God". If we take this mandate seriously, it naturally leads us to become more thankful for all the blessings in our lives. Rev. John Nemanic. _____________________________________________________

GIFT BOOTH OUTDOOR FAIR Due to social distance regulations and concerns regarding congestion by the Mass sign-in tables, we have been un-able to open the Gift booth. However

at the same time, there have been a number of requests for religious items. As a temporary solution, we will be having a gift booth fair on the weekend of October 17/18, 2020. This fair will be held outside of the main entrance to allow for social distancing and volunteers will be there to help you make your purchase both be-fore and after all Masses. We look forward to serving the parishioners of St. Mary’s Cathedral again. Hope to see you there.
