St Emilian the Confessor, Bishop of Cyzicus

Saint Emilian, Bishop of Cyzikus, lived during the reign of the Iconoclast emperor Leo the Armenian (813-820). He was summoned together with other bishops to the court of the emperor, who insistently urged the bishops to refrain from the veneration of holy icons. St Emilian was the first to tell the emperor firmly that the question of the veneration of holy icons ought to be dis-cussed and decided only within the Church by its spiri-tual leaders, and not at the im-perial court. In the year 815 he was sent to prison for the Or-thodox Faith, where he died as a confessor.

The St. Theodosius Annual Parish Picnic was held at our Ridge Manor Banquet Facility grounds in Brooklyn. Subdeacon Leon "Darrell" Felon served as the grill Master, Albert Jacob Casey and Marie Maty served as Co-chairs, Gary and Chris Byndas and Fr. John (and the rest of the Byndas orchestra) provided the music. Alex Machaskee provided Serbian medicine for the heart, and the food and fellowship was provided by every-one there.
