On Corpus Christi, we celebrate that the Body and Blood of Our Lord is truly in the Eucharist. It is Jesus himself who died and has risen and who has given us the joy of the institution of the Eucharist. Through the Eucharist, we receive the body of Jesus, and then it is our turn to be his body to the world around us. To be Christ-like, we must conform to him. Receiving the Eucharist makes this a possibility and gives us the strength to go out and share him with oth-ers in our lives.

One way we do this each year is to go in a Eucharistic procession throughout Oakley and Fairfax on Corpus Christi Sunday. Carrying Jesus out among our neighbors and witnessing our love and faith in him is one way to conform to Our Lord and to show others the value we place in the true Body and Blood of Christ. As we walk in procession, we have time to meditate on how we can be present to those who are watching--how to look them in the eyes and see their needs, their joys, their suffering and then reach out to them by being witnesses of our faith, giving them hope that they too can find peace and love as a child of God.

Amen? Amen!

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION JUNE 29 - 30, 2019

Our parishes’ contributions to the Peter’s Pence Collection allow the Holy Father to support victims of war and natural di-sasters and others most in need of as-sistance. This second collection is to be taken next weekend, June 29 - 30, 2019. This is one of the designated collections where the entire second offertory col-lection is sent to the Chancery for for-warding for the designated purpose.

PASTOR’S RAMBLINGS | 4

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! St. Anthony parishioner Lena Eison turned 94 on Pentecost, and a few of her friends wore hats in her honor (photo 1). ST. ANTONY ROCK BRIGADE: Parishioners and some very kind visitors to St. Anthony formed the “rock brigade” to dismantle the pond after the Pentecost liturgies (photo 2). CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations Aaron and Megan Burnside! They celebrated the sacrament of marriage on Sat., June 8. Megan’s grandfather is the bookkeeper Mark Manley, from St. Cecilia (photo 3). WELCOME, CHILD OF GOD: Welcome Oliver Nathaniel Potts, son of David and Christine Potts (photo 4). NEW CRY ROOM/SANCTUARY FOR OUR PARENTS: We now have a space for the parents to go to when a little one needs some space away from Mass. The basement of the vestibule has a space we’ve created with chairs and couches (photo 5), plus a changing table, for you to go to with your babies (photo 6). We have a speaker system down there as well so you will not miss Mass. We also have new remodeled restrooms in the basement. PENTECOST INTERCESSIONS: St. Anthony parishioner Christina Martich read an intercession in German, one of several speakers of foreign languages at the Pentecost Masses (photo 7).

“Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” – John 6:53

SUMMER WITH THE SAINTS

St. Augustine Zhao Rong and Companions Christianity arrived in China by way of Syria in the 600s. Depending on China’s relations with the outside world, Chris-tianity over the centuries was free to grow or was forced to operate secretly.

The 120 martyrs in this group died between 1648 and 1930. Eighty-seven of them were born in China, and were children, par-ents, catechists, or laborers, ranging in age from nine years to 72. This group includes four Chinese diocesan priests. The 33 for-eign-born martyrs were mostly priests or women religious, especially from the Or-der of Preachers, the Paris Foreign Mis-sion Society, the Friars Minor, Society of Jesus, Society of St. Francis de Sales (Sale-sians), and Franciscan Missionaries of Mary.

Augustine Zhao Rong was a Chinese soldier who accompanied Bishop John Gabriel Tau-rin Dufresse of the Paris Foreign Mission So-ciety to his martyrdom in Beijing. Not long after his baptism, Augustine was ordained as a diocesan priest. He was martyred in 1815.Beatified in groups at various times, these 120 martyrs were canonized to-gether in Rome on October 1, 2000.

Evangelization in our neighborhood...

We have a group of parishioners led by Fr. Jacob who meet on a regular basis and go out in the neighborhood and invite our neighbors to come and see what we have to offer here at St. Margaret—St. John Parish. If you are interested contact the Parish Office.

Did you know...we save plastic bags which are used to make sleeping mats for the homeless. There are containers in the vestibule for this project.

There will be a second

collection for the efforts of our Vincent De Paul Society

We thank you for your generosity in the past!

We welcomed Rev. Stephen Beseau, Assistant Professor of Moral Theology to our church on Pentecost Sunday. We thank our Bell Choir along with our Choir for making this a special holyday.

We would like to thank everyone who came and supported our Annual Summer Celebration. With the early printing schedule for our bulletin we do not have any figures available yet. It was a great even-ing of friends, family and alumni coming together to celebrate our schools and the Catholic Education we received. Thanks to all our sponsors who helped make this event a success.
