The Pastor’s Corner
Deep into October, our school students will be doing
some planting of spring flowers at “The Point” where
Bishop and Pawtucket Avenue meet. In case you’re
interested, the squirrels won’t eat them as they do tulips…
be advised! Thank you, students, for helping to beautify
the Church property. We’ll enjoy them in the spring.
The Calendar Fund Raiser for the school is included in
this bulletin. This is the most important annual fund raiser
for the school. Please consider a $10 donation for each
calendar. You can win a prize every day through the
month of November.
A word of thanks goes out to Art DeBlois, who
presented the financial reports last weekend. As a follow
up to his presentation, bids are being received this week for
the new ceiling tiles in the cry room and sacristy.
I noticed in the Projo that a new traffic law will go into
effect very soon in Providence. Entitled, “Don’t block the
box,” drivers will be fined for blocking an intersection
when their traffic light turns red. All of us have either been
trapped in the intersection or have waited for the traffic to
move going in the other direction. The Gospel today is one
of the final “trap” stories of Jesus with the religious leaders
of his day. They want to ensnare him; first feigning praise,
they then attempt to place him in a “box” with the Roman
authorities. Seeing through their dishonesty, he asks them
for a coin. Remember the detail that Jesus’ robe “was
woven in one piece from top to bottom,” (John 19:23). Jesus
didn’t have any pockets for coins, pagan coins at that. But
they did!! They had compromised their own religious values even
within the Temple area.
Christians should strive to think outside the box for
spiritual healing both in the Church and in the world. To
the state, we pay taxes; to God we strive daily to offer our
undivided hearts. Unlike unjust tax laws where there are
loop holes for some , God’s ‘law’ invites all to live always in
the truth… “Give to God what belongs to God.” Isaiah
states it perfectly, “I AM the Lord, there is no other.” Help
us, Lord, to offer you our very best in thanksgiving for all
that You have done for us.
~Monsignor Darcy
