Dear Friends of St. John the Baptist,

In an effort to respond to a number of requests of our parishioners

that they be given the opportunity to make their weekly / monthly offer-

ings online, we have been studying the possibility of making this service

available. Some of you may already be familiar with online charitable

giving. Some of you who prefer to give in the traditional way of the offer-

tory envelope may not be as familiar. Some of the reasons behind online

giving are:

1) If you are traveling or unable to attend a particular Sunday, you can

give by either bank draft or credit/debit card, and therefore, you are

still able to participate in the weekly offering.

2) Many people have now become accustomed to doing banking and bill

paying transactions online for convenience and security. They simply

prefer this over giving by traditional means (for example, writing a

check).

3) It provides the peace of mind that comes with knowing that during

the months when attendance is lower (for example, in the summer

months), the needs of the parish can still be maintained without dis-

ruption.

Therefore, beginning on May 28, 2016 the option to participate in online

giving at our parish website will be offered. It will be as simple as visiting

our St. John the Baptist website at

www.stjohnbaptistlbk.org

clicking on the ’Online Giving’ Tab and filling out the online donation

form. We hope that with your future use of online giving through our

website, that you will let us know whether or not your experience was

helpful and positive.

I also wanted to bring to your attention, my hope that you will mark

your calendar for Sunday, August 7, 2016. We hope on this day to cele-

brate the first Anniversary of the founding of our parish with a Barbe-

cue / Jamaica that I am referring to a “Barmaica”. This is a combination

of the two which I am sure will be a happy and joyful celebration that will

include live music, food, games and activities. However, I do want you to

know that I need your help and ideas in order to make this a great suc-

cess. A Planning Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 2nd at 7pm at

our parish. I hope that you will come and encourage other parishioners

to participate.

Lastly, our parish Spiritual Life Committee is working to organize and

plan a Summer Faith Fest for adults and children to take place at the

church Monday through Wednesday, June 27th through June 29th in the

evenings. Each evening will consist of spiritual and fun activities, includ-

ing a meal. Tentatively, the time is from 6pm to 8pm. A Planning Meet-

ing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30pm at the parish.

I wish you a very blessed Memorial Day. If you are traveling, God bless

all travelers and bring us all safely home.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. David Cruz
