THIS SUNDAY’S GOSPEL READING On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead. NEWS FROM AROUND OUR SCHOOL… THANK YOU TO ...the families and staff who supported the Bunnings BBQ on Saturday. Our helpers worked really hard to serve the Bunnings customers. Thanks to parents who donated cakes too. Once again our work is helping our school to be part of the community and to gain some funds to help with a major school project. Well done to our P&F. ...the families and staff who supported the Parish/Family Mass on Sunday as we celebrated the beginning of Holy Week. We had a wonderful turn out of families. Particular thanks go to the students who helped with our readings with such confidence. The Passion Reading is quite long and complex but our students were amazing with their care and effort with the Gospel story. We were very proud. Thank you to our Parishioners for once again preparing morning tea. THIS WEEK our classes will be honouring the key events of Holy Week with a time of prayer and commemoration each morning. This week our focus is on Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Next Tuesday after the Easter break, we will gather to honour Easter. These are important times for our school to gather to remember the life and death of Jesus. TERM 1 REPORTS will come home this week or next week. The Report is brief and focuses on social skills and learn-ing skills recording student achievement after these weeks of settling into the learning program. This style of Report is a school decision and not a requirement from Government. It reflects the commitment of teachers to record and share observations about student progress. PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT MEETINGS: The reports are followed up with Parent/Student/Teacher meetings scheduled for the weeks of this term and next term depending on teacher planning. Years 3-7 meetings include stu-dents as key members in the conversation and students are expected to attend. Parents should also note that it is not up to the school to always schedule meeting times although we do at certain points in the year. Parents can arrange meetings as needed and likewise, teachers will invite meetings when needed. We are encouraging ongoing conversations about student learning and achievement. Our focus will always be on the evidence of improvement. HAVE YOU GOT A PLASTIC TABLE that you can lend us for the NIGHT MARKET? We are after some tables to use on the night. If you can help, contact our Office. Just remember to put your name on the table for ease of return. SPORTS DAY is coming up on Friday 15th April. Put the date in your diary. BUILDING PROGRESS have you noticed all the windows and doors are in place, work is progressing with the roof, the cladding has started for the external walls, the verandahs are developing? Soon the small decking areas will be built on the two corners facing the oval. The project is on schedule. RECEPTION TERM 3 ENTRY: we are preparing for the induction program for our Term 3 students. If you have family or friends interested in the Term 3 entry point please invite parents to make contact with the school Office. We are also working on 2017 enrolments.

POLICE CHECKS - IMPORTANT INFORMATION Is your Police Clearance due to expire within the next 12 months?

From the 1st May 2016 the process of obtaining a Catholic Police Clearance will change and

with that St John Bosco will incur a considerable cost increase

from $7.50 to $65.00 per application.

To avoid this cost to our school we are looking to renew any clearances before this time.

Please contact Louise Kennewell at the school Office or

[email protected] to seek confirmation of your due date of expiry.

AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A PARENT SURVEY ABOUT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

I invite parents to participate in a survey about Catholic schools to help Catholic Education SA to gain more information about parent views about Catholic schools. The link is www.squareholes.com/parentsurvey The survey will take 10-15 minutes of your time. The survey closes on Friday 15th April. The survey is being undertaken by a company called Square Holes. Q: Why is Catholic Education South Australia doing a parent survey? A: We want to know more about how Catholic Education South Australia and our schools are perceived and what factors influence schooling choice. The research will provide insights that can be used by CESA and individual Catholic schools to inform marketing and promotional strategy.

Q: Who is the survey for? A: The survey is open to parents and carers with a child at a Catholic school. Participation is voluntary. Q: Will each participant’s identity remain confidential? A:Yes. The survey doesn’t ask for individual names. Square Holes respects the privacy of any research participants and will only use the information provided for the current research project. Square Holes adheres to the Privacy (Market and Social Research) Code 2014. Paul Murphy

Respect Understanding Affirmation Happiness

Dear Parents/Caregivers, Students, Staff and Friends of St John Bosco School,

This week, Holy Week, is very special in the Christian tradition. The Sunday before Easter is Palm Sunday and the last

three days before Easter are Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good

Friday respectively commemorate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper and the Crucifixion. Students this

week have been involved in some way of reverently bringing to life one aspect of these commemorative events. On

our return next week, we will once again gather to participate in an enactment of Jesus’ Resurrection.

We enjoyed a very busy past weekend with the Bunning’s BBQ and the Family Parish Mass, celebrating Palm Sunday.

A tremendous thank you to all our parents and students who supported us in any way at these events. It is always

really wonderful to see our young people involved in Liturgical celebrations.

This week or next week a student Report will be sent home detailing social/learning skills. Teachers have also

included a very brief comment capturing their impression of student participation thus far. In the next couple of

weeks parents are asked to attend Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings to discuss student learning. It is really

important that during this time students also have a voice in these discussions because it is about their learning and

the goals they have set that will continue to drive their success. Details regarding time allocations will be sent home

by class teachers in the next few days.

I hope that you have ‘saved the date’ for Friday 1st April. On this night we are hosting our very first Night Market.

The Parents and Friends Committee work tirelessly to provide opportunities for our parent community to become

involved in the life of our school and this is a tremendous way to include all of you, our parent community, and the

wider community too. As we have written many times in our Bulletin, children also love seeing their parents

involved in the school. We consider ourselves to be family oriented and as such, many of the activities the Parent

and Friends organise include our students, your children. There will be a number of trading tables, a variety of food

and drink on offer as well as child entertainment. Bring your family and friends and have a great night out and

hopefully buy a few bargains too!

I wish you all a very Blessed Easter and look forward to your return next

week.

With every best wish,

Mia
