Upcoming Events and Activities

Even with the Extraordinary Year of Mercy behind us, doors across our Diocese remain open for you

to experience the peace, love, and joy brought by participating in the sacrament of Reconciliation.

In addition to the regular parish schedule, the sacrament of Reconciliation will be available at

parishes throughout the Diocese of Calgary all the Wednesdays of Advent, from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

December 11th: 3rd Sunday of Advent

With God anything is possible. There is the danger to think that God will never forgive you or

that you cannot change yourself or the world. In Advent we are reminded that we do not need to do everything

ourselves. Jesus has ransomed us and we respond to the psalmist by crying out: “Lord, come and save us.” It

may be that the healing or the change for which we long does not come quickly enough for us. Advent is also

about waiting. In Advent we have to be patient and trust that the coming of the Lord is near. With God the blind

can see, the lame walk, the sick are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor receive good news!

The Lord continues to do these things for us but we have to put aside all substitutes for God in order to see and

receive the healing promised through Jesus Christ. Action: Look for the goodness of God in your life, in the people

around you, and in the world .

SAVE THE DATE: DEVELOPMENT & PEACE RETREAT AND ASSEMBLY

The Calgary Diocesan Council will be hosting the 2017 Development & Peace Retreat and Assembly on April 28-30, 2017. The event will

be held at the FCJ Centre, 219, 19 Avenue SW. Next year will mark the organization's 50th anniversary. Development and Peace was

established in 1967 by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops in response to Pope Paul VI's encyclical letter Populorum Progressio,

which says that Development is the new word for Peace. Peace must be built daily, and it must strive towards a more perfect justice among

human beings (Populorum Progressio, 76). That founding principle of Development and Peace is still maintained today. This is as relevant

today, as it was 50 years ago. Mark your calendar and join us in this celebration. More details to follow soon.

FERTILITYCARE CENTER OF CALGARY

The Creighton Model Fertility Care System Practitioner education program will be held in Calgary with Phase I in April 2017 and Phase II

in October 2017. This allied health profession is not just a natural family planning system; certified Creighton Model practitioners teach

women to monitor and maintain their gynecologic and reproductive health. The CrMS provides comprehensive, professional services

through individualized follow-up, standardized teaching tools, and ongoing research. The CrMS is the first standardized system of the

menstrual and fertility cycle biomarkers, which strongly links and networks the ability to achieve or avoid pregnancy successfully. It is

based on 37 years of research by Dr. Thomas Hilgers, Ob/Gyn of the Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction. It is

versatile and effective at any stage of a woman’s reproductive life, and is the foundation in helping women treat various gynecological and

infertility issues. Post-secondary program completion is a pre-requisite to train as a Fertility Care Practitioner. For more information on

applying and tuition costs, please contact the Fertility Care Center of Calgary at 403-473-1522 or [email protected].

Stewardship Reflection:

December 11, 2016 - 3rd

Sunday of Advent

“You too must be

patient. Make your hearts firm,

because the coming of the Lord

is at hand.” James 5:8

Patience is another one of those things many of us

struggle with. We want things to go according to our

plan and our schedule. Any change brings anxiety

and fear. Through daily prayer we better align

ourselves with God’s will and His plan, which is far

better than anything we can come up with on our

own.

http://archstl.org/stewardship/page/bulletin-inserts

All parishioners are invited to join in the prayer of the Divine Mercy Chaplet on the 3rd Sunday of every month at St. James Church, beginning at 10:50am, next one Dec 18th.

"The Christmas Liturgy Schedule is now

available. All ministers are asked

to sign their names where they

can help. The deadline is

December 18th."

Dear St. James Parish,

to share your Faith with us

during Jan. 16-20th for our

annual Student Faith Week.

We are looking for volunteers to lead a 30

minute session of your choice for one

afternoon (12:45-3:00)or more if you so

choose. There will be three sessions that you

would present repeating the same session

three times. Each day is a different grade.

If you are interested, need suggestions, or

have questions please email Jacealyn

Hempel at [email protected] stating

the day or days and the topic you would

like to present. There will be more info to

follow as the dates get closer. Thank you

and we look forward to your presentation!

As the busyness of Christmas

approaches we kindly ask parishioners

to abstain from parking on the roadways

and emergency lanes. This prevents the

traffic from flowing out smoothly to the North and

to the South, causing people to get frustrated and to

drive a little more hectic than usual, which in turn

puts our Pedestrians (especially the little ones) at

risk. Please be courteous, drive slow and

use our extended parking lot on the East

side. We all wish to have a safe, Merry

and Peaceful Christmas!

Senior’s Group All seniors are invited for

fellowship & fun on Wednesday,

January 18th, 2:00pm, @ St. James

Church, in the St. Raphael Room

Children - come prepared! The Gloria will be sung for the first time since the beginning of Advent. The singing of the Gloria by the Angels at Bethlehem, announced the birth of Our

Lord Jesus Christ. Let us join the Angels... Be sure to bring some little bells (jingle bells) which you can ring all during the Gloria.
