A note from the Pastor...
Dear St. Gabriel Family, Please note that the diocese is following the CDC guidance that recommends that everyone wear a face covering in indoor public settings, whether they have been vaccinated or not. Outside seating is a possibility for those who prefer that option.
This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast is a holy day of obligation in the Catholic Church. This year, this special feast happens to land on a Sunday and thus replaces the celebration of the twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
On this day we celebrate the taking up, both body and soul, of the Blessed Virgin Mary to heaven. The Assumption of Mary is a dogma of the Catholic Church that was defined by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950. A dogma is defined by the Catechism as “a truth revealed by God, which the magisterium of the Church declared as binding”. The Assumption has been celebrated in Church history for centuries before being declared a dogma. Now it is given the official title of a “solemnity” which means that it is a feast day of the highest ranking which celebrates a mystery of our faith.
Mary, as you ascended into heaven to live forever with your beloved Son, watch over us and intercede for us. We look to you as an example of kindness, grace, peace, and every virtue. After our earthly life is done, show us your beloved Son, Jesus.
In His Service, Very Reverend Michael Froidurot We are very much in need of Catechists and Aides to help with our various classes. With classes being predominately remote last year, we drastically reduced the number of in-person Catechists and Aides. This year we expect to be back in full-swing, which means that we really need to staff up with volunteers again! If you are feeling called to help with Religious Education or High School Youth Ministry, please contact Melinda Casteloes (Religious Education K-8): [email protected] or Kierstin Rowell (High School Youth Ministry): [email protected]. In His Service, Very Reverend Michael Froidurot The Welcome Kiosk is part of our effort to let you know you are welcome and belong here at St. Gabriel. We want you and all of our parishioners to know that we are here to help and support you in your faith journey. As we move forward and celebrate a return to relative normalcy, I hope that you consider engaging and getting more involved in parish life. Whether that means signing up for small group faith-sharing (Be My Witness), registering your children for Religious Education or High School Youth Ministry, volunteering as a catechist or aide, or trying a new ministry you haven’t been a part of before, I hope you consider letting our parish family be a part of your story.
Knights of Columbus Scholarships We received a strong group of applicants including
both high school and college students. This year we are awarding over $14,000 in scholarships.
The Deacon Bob Troy memorial scholarship is our highest award. Our winner has consistently given to St.
Gabriels through playing piano, singing and playing violin in the choir. She was a core team youth group
leader in high school and has counseled youth through these difficult COVID times. After an amazing high school career, she went to college and pulled down straight A’s in her first year. This future nurse, Sara
Hermann is our winner this year. We also gave out 6 “general support” scholarships. The
recipients are: Adriana Sweeney, Emily Kipp, Fru Ndifor, Leancy Cevillo, Connor Haugk and Banessa
Martinez.
The sacrament of Reconciliation is being offered every Saturday

This Sunday’s Readings First Reading: Rv. 11:19a, 12:1-6a, 10ab
God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. Then another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems. Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have salvation and power come, and the Kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed One.” Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 45: 10, 11, 12, 16
R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold. The queen takes her place at your right hand in gold of Ophir. R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold. Hear, O daughter, and see; turn your ear, forget your people and your father’s house. R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold. So shall the king desire your beauty; for he is your lord. R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold. They are borne in with gladness and joy; they enter the palace of the king. R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him and delivers them. Taste and see how good the LORD is; blessed the man who takes refuge in him. R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15: 20-27
Brothers and sisters: Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through man, the resurrection of the dead came also through man. For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life, but each one in proper order: Christ the firstfruits; then, at his coming, those who belong to Christ; then comes the end, when he hands over the Kingdom to his God and Father, when he has destroyed every sovereignty and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death, for “he subjected everything under his feet.” Gospel: Luke 1: 39-56
Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”
And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever.”
Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. come into the world.” Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

“And Mary said, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.” Luke 1: 46
After Jesus, we look to Mary as our model of stewardship. Her entire life was lived in obedience to
God’s will. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of Christ. Like Mary, we too are called to reflect Christ to the
world. We do this by living grateful and generous lives. We do this by putting
other’s needs before our wants. our lives? to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” (Matthew 16:26) St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God, and nothing else.” We often forget this stewardship wisdom when we spend all of our time, talent, and treasure to gain more of the world’s riches. We need to set our priorities based on God’s values and not the values of the material world.
