Views from Fr. Larry Pichard, Pastor
Fr. Ivan and a number of the priests of our diocese will be on retreat; please pray for their spiritual renewal. Fr. Zach and I will be here in the parish, at least till Thursday noon when Fr. Zach begins attending the women’s ACTS retreat. Since I will then be the only priest still standing, we have to cancel Confessions Thursday evening—sorry. But then on Saturday, all priests will be here for Confessions.
By the way, please pray for the 40 women of our parish who next weekend will be living the ACTS retreat and the 25 women who will be giving the retreat. ACTS is a very dynamic and lay-led retreat. If you haven’t made one yet (and including this retreat 570 parishioners already have), be planning to register for the Men’s March 5-8 or the Women’s April 16-19.
Next weekend we celebrate Mission Sunday during which we join all parishes of the world in offering a special collection for Catholic parishes living in poverty and not being able to build churches or parish centers for their many parishioners. Hopefully our generosity will enable many humble and needy parishes provide at least some adequate buildings for their parishioners. Whenever I think of the Missions, I remember the parish I visited in Tanzania, Africa near the city of Dar es Salem; it had 10,000 parishioners but its Church was basically a roof on stilts, with all 4 sides open air, and sitting very near the equator! Those are the very real but faithful fellow Catholics that we want to help.
