What do Catholics celebrate in January? The month of January is dedicated to the Name of Jesus, which is celebrated on January 3. "In the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth and under the earth". Christ's name is chosen in heaven, and the Angel Gabriel announces it when he in- forms the Blessed Virgin of the incarnation: "Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and shalt bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus". It is a name that has marvelous implications, for it means "savior." The very name bespeaks the magnitude of His mission, His infinite love, a love that will cause Him to offer Himself up for us. Jesus is our all. In His name we may pray to the Father with assurance of being heard. In His name the Church administers all her sacraments. In His name she offers all her prayers and blesses homes, the fields, and the sick. In the name of Jesus she casts out evil spirits, and at the hour of our death bids us, "Go forth, Christian soul." She as- sures us that whoever shall call upon this name will be saved. When our soul has departed this life to seek its eternal home, the Church asks in the name of Jesus, "Eternal rest give unto him, O Lord." Lets pray to the Name of Jesus for our community and families: Oh good Jesus, according to your great mercy, have mercy on us. O most merciful Jesus, by your Precious Blood which Thou will shed for sinners, we beseech Thee to wash away all our iniquities and to look graciously upon us, a poor and unworthy sinner, as we call upon Thy Holy Name. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Father Carlos’s Reflection on theBicentenial Jubile Celebration: Two hundred years ago, on July 11, 1820, Pope Pius VII established the diocese of Richmond,

trusting Most Reverend Patrick Kelly to bestow gifts and graces to guide his heart as a Good Shepherd for the diocese. Our bicentennial jubi-le, which ends today, has included both accom-plishments and challenges with the pandemic and violence attack at the United States Capitol in Washington, DC. These issues and difficulties that we embrace in our lives and culture help us to understand the themes of the bicentennial jubi-lee: the communion and mission of the Church. Communion refers to the bonds that unite us to God and to one another; mission is our common endeavor to proclaim Christ’s death and resurrec-tion for the forgiveness of sin. Our Blessed Virgin Mary shines as the star of holiness and a model of discipleship for us. Mary embodies the Church on this journey to heaven because she cooperares generously with God in the work of salvation, which brought about new life for believers. May Our Blessed Virgin Mary inspires us to follow her example and obedience to love her Son, Jesus Christ and be partakers of his divinity and kindness among us. As we con-clude this bicentennial jubilee, let’s pray to our Blessed Virgin Mary to consecrate us to her Son, Jesus Christ. As we pray: O God, Father of mercies, whose Only Begotten Son, as he hung upon the Cross, chose the Blessed Virgin Mary, his Mother, to be our Mother also, grant, we pray, that with her loving help your Church may be more fruitful day by day and, exulting in the holiness of her children, may draw to her embra-ce all the families of the peoples. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
