BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY

Grief Share

Grief Share is a special 6-week series for anyone grieving the death of someone close.

It's a place where participants are surrounded by people who understand the pain and struggles of such loss. Participants obtain valuable information from each other that will help them through this most difficult time in their life. In an atmosphere of love and confidentiality, we learn to open our hearts, share our stories, and allow ourselves to be healed. For participants to benefit from our sessions, we need to have at least four attendees, not counting the facilitator. Anyone interested in attending a grief share session, please contact Ursula at 909-797-2533 ext. 225. A date for the sessions will be set once we have enough attendees.

Fourth Sunday of Advent December 18, 2016 2

SUMMONED BY GOD

As Christmas draws near, Advent’s scrip-tures lure us into a world of dreams, signs, wonders, and the miracle of the virgin birth. Too often we allow the great stories of our faith, the ones that are most familiar, simply to wash over us. Today’s Gospel account of the events leading up to the birth of the Lord reads like a present-day soap opera. Yet Jo-seph’s courage, even in the midst of what must have been an incredibly confusing time, provides a model for us. Each week, we are summoned by God to embrace the way of goodness and truth through the proclamation of God’s holy word. Like Joseph, we are called to do as the Lord com-mands us. As we stand at the threshold of Christmas, let us have the courage to be open to whatever it is that the Lord will re-quire of us as we celebrate the miracle of Bethlehem.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers provide 5 different types of care depending on the individual’s situation. We have already discussed Crisis Care and Follow-Up Care.

Now let’s think of Preventive Care, so that you will understand it better. It is less obvious than Crisis Care but equally important. Preventive Care helps people anticipate and prepare for potentially difficult upcoming events. It is based on the belief that the negative impact of crisis can be lessened or even averted by talking through feelings and clarifying expectations prior to our anticipated event. This can help individuals come to a realistic picture of what an upcoming event will be like and to prepare for it emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Preventive Care is proactive care. It offers an opportunity to deal with potential problems before they start. Preventive Care can be helpful in situations such as:

A woman in expecting her first child

A person in approaching retirement

A young man or woman in getting married in 2 months

An 18-year-old is going off to college or the military

A person has just recently received a promotion

People usually think of these as wonderful events, which they are, but for some people they can become difficult times of personal crisis. If you or a family member or friend is involved in one of these situations or one that is similar, and feel the need for more Preventive Care than the family can provide, please call us at (909) 553-5106 and ask for CC.

▪ Que Dios los siga bendiciendo. ▪

"To the Father and to his mercy you can with sure hope entrust your child" (John Paul II to those who have had abortions, The Gospel of Life, n.99). Reflection: Baptism is the ordinary way to be born into God's grace. But for those killed without baptism, we can still have sure hope. St. Paul wrote that God wants all to be saved. Let us entrust these children to the Lord, who does not forget anyone that He creates, even when we do. Prayer: Father, to you we commend the souls of all children killed by abortion. Bring them to heaven, and bring us your comfort. Amen.

Amen.
