LITURGY THIS WEEK

THEME: Take and Eat

The most frequent form of contact with the Church is, for almost all Catholics, the Sunday Mass. It is good to ask ourselves today: Why are we here? What are we

doing here? Why must it be the Eucha-rist that brings us together? Because the Eucharist is the Lord himself. It as-sures us, believers, that the Lord is here, that he is present not only in the Blessed Sacrament but in each of us and in our communities. He guaran-tees to those who believe in him that he is walking with us as our companion in life. Even more, he shows us in the Eucharist how to live like him, give our-selves with him; how with him to break ourselves for one another and to give thanks to God, and to each other too.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: 109

[Please pray together] The Lord's revelation to my Master: 'Sit on my right: I will put your foes beneath your feet.' The Lord will send from Zion your sceptre of power: rule in the midst of all your foes. A prince from the day of your birth on the holy mountains: from the womb before the day-break I begot you. The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change. 'You are a priest for ever, a priest like Melchizedek of old.'

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, alleluia! I am the living bread which has come down from heaven, says the Lord. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever. Alleluia!
