CATHOLIC CHARITIES Catholic Charities partnered with Edward K. Downing to host a canned food drive from Nov. 1st - Nov. 15th. We were shocked when we were given the final count of 6,197 cans of food!!!! As I was speaking to the student assembly Friday, parents were still bringing food in!!! It took the total count well over 6,200 cans of food! Thank you to parents, students, and staff for working so selflessly to gather food for the less fortunate. Mission Moment: There are 1,400 homeless students in the Odessa/Midland Area. I explained to the students the amount of food they collected was enough to feed 130 homeless students for a month. They have set an example that it doesn't matter how young you are, if you set your mind to help you can make a BIG difference!!! While I was talking to the, a kindergarten girl walked up to us to let us know that she had brought 2 cans

of food. The principal and I thanked her and as she walked away, he explained she was one of the homeless students I had spoken about. As I tried to fight back the tears, I couldn't help but think, we at the parishes have an opportunity to rise up and help those less fortunate around us. As a Catholic Community we don't have to go far to help...you have us at Catholic Charities that can put your donations to work. Please, I know you cannot give to everyone...So if you can only give once a month, PLEASE, remember us the next time.
