Church Renovations

After extensive reviews, site visits and conferences with Diocesan personnel dating back to August 2014 and detailed financial reviews and recommendations by our Finance Council, on December 5th we received approval from Bishop Kevin Vann and the requisite diocesan committees to proceed with the renovation our church. Our Finance Council recommended to me that the total renovation should not exceed $3M in order to maintain adequate liquidity reserves at our Parish level and I accepted that recommenda-tion. With the current scope and pricing of our renovation work, the actual cost is estimated to be $2.3M and that includes a 15% contingency. In addition, some parishioners have expressed a desire to donate to-ward the renovation which will, in turn, reduce the need to expend $2.3M of Parish reserves. The renovation of the church will begin Monday, December 29th, and will be completed on March 6th. Dur-ing the renovation, the church will be closed. Bishop Vann will celebrate Mass at St. Edward the Confessor on Friday, March 6th at 7pm, which will include the dedication of the new altar. For pictures and up-to-date information, please visit the parish website at stedward.com Please note the following changes which are effective December 29, 2014 - March 7, 2015 Sunday Masses, including the Saturday 5:30pm, Mass will be held in a heated tent located next to the school field. With a seating capacity of one thousand, the tent will provide a comfortable space for every-one. Daily Masses will be celebrated at our chapel, San Felipe de Jesus, located in Capo Beach, 1.5 miles from St. Edward the Confessor Church. The 8:15 daily Mass will continue as scheduled. The 5:30 Mass will be changed to 5:00pm Monday thru Friday due to religious education classes which begin at 6pm. Baptisms and Funerals will take place at San Felipe de Jesus Chapel. Because the chapel has a capacity of 175 people, larger funerals will be coordinated with neighboring parishes according to the preference of the family. Confessions will continue to be celebrated on Mondays at 6pm and Saturdays 4-5pm at St. Edward the Confessor, but they will be held in the Conference Room which is located near the entrance of the church. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at San Felipe Chapel: 1st Fridays (8am -6:00pm) and 3rd Thursdays (9am Thursday – 8:00am Friday) of January and February

Paul’s letter to the Galatians speaks directly to the heart of Christians and addresses the most important question we can ask: “What must we do to be saved?” This fascinating letter reveals the merciful love that God the Father has for us, his children. It speaks of the extraordinary gift of salvation that Jesus has won for us, and it explains how we can unite our-selves to Christ’s redeeming sacrifice through faith and love. Galatians is a study that will reignite your love for God as you learn of the astonishing love God has for you.

COAT DRIVE TODAY

Wanted: Caring and Compassionate Parents to Adopt or Foster Children With approximately 56,000 children in the foster care system in California there is an urgent need for parents to foster and/or adopt. If God is calling you to open your home and heart to adopt or foster a child, Holy Family Adoption & Foster Care Services (HFS) can help you. Whether you hope to adopt an infant or give an older child a loving home, HFS will work to help fulfill your dream of becoming a parent. For those considering becoming a foster parent, HFS created the Fost-Adopt program to bridge the gap between a child’s initial need for temporary care and the long-term need for a permanent home. HFS works with public social services to assist in these placements.

Holy Family Adoption & Foster Care Services is an accredited, California state-licensed adoption and foster care agency dedicated to uniting children and infants in need of a loving home with hopeful adoptive parents and families. HFS provides direct services to birth parents, prospective adoptive parents, adult adoptees adopted through the agency, and interim foster care providers.

Holy Family Services provides monthly orientations to prospective adoptive parents seeking information about the infant adoption and the Fost-Adopt programs. We equip prospective parents with a step-by-step overview of the legal, financial and emotional process in becoming adoptive parents, Please call for Orientation times, at 1-800-464-2367. If not you, then who? A representative from Holy Family Adoption & Foster Care Services will be at St. Edward the Confessor Church after Masses on the December 27 & 28.
