St. Edward Catholic Church (510) 797-0241 [email protected] Web: www.stedwardcatholic.com Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 18, 2019 Welcome! You enter this Church not as a stranger, but as a guest of God. As a baptized person, you enter it as a son or daughter of the Father in Christ. This House of God, therefore, is your family home. Come in then with humility of mind, joy of heart, and thanks in your soul. Acknowledge the Lord’s presence in the Tabernacle and adore Him. Come in and pause in prayer in the midst of your busy life and its many concerns. Be grateful to those who, for the glory of God and in honor of St. Edward, built our place of worship and our school with faith and sacrifice, and sanctified it with their songs and prayers. Anyone who wishes to practice the Catholic faith by attending this parish may consider St. Edward church their parish home, no matter where one lives in the area. You simply need to register. LISTEN TO JESUS AND THE PROPHETS Prophets have always had a tough row to hoe. Their words, often unwelcome, are used against them to persecute and even kill them. Such was the fate of the Old Testament prophets, and Jeremiah is a great example of this. Jesus endured opposition from sinners, and did not turn back from a shameful death in order to rise to a glorious new life. The ultimate prophet, Jesus sought to warn the people of his time and ours of the divisions that his words would cause, showing himself to be the prophet of all time. We all need to look at our divisions and dilemmas in light of Jesus’ teachings and warnings, and seek to understand all that he has proclaimed and taught about what will happen if we fail to listen.
