Accessibility, Sustainability, Stormwater Management

ACCESSIBILITY FEATURESNew elevator included in renovations to serve all floors, which provides an accessible route to all areas of the building.

Lobby addition provides an accessible entrance on the Forbes Avenue side of the school.

New accessible toilet rooms provided for students and faculty.

SUSTAINABILITY FEATURESOutdoor water use will be reduced by selecting plants that do not require irrigation.

A plan will be developed before and implemented during construction to divert at least 50% of the construction and demolition waste from landfills and incineration facilities throughrecovery, reuse, and recycling.

Materials with recycled content will be used throughout the project. We are targeting a goal of 20% of the materials in the building (based on cost) will include recycled content

Regional materials will be used throughout the project. We are targeting a goal of 20% of the materials in the building (based on cost) will be extracted, harvested, or recovered, as well asmanufactured, within 500 miles of the project site.

At least 50% of wood-based materials used on the project will be certified in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s principles and criteria.

The mechanical systems will meet the indoor air quality requirements of ASHRAE 62.1- 2010 and the enhanced indoor air quality requirements of LEED V4.

The following materials will be provided that meet the requirements outlined in LEED 2009 for Schools for low-emitting and low-VOC materials: o Adhesives and sealants o Paints and coatings o Flooring systems o Composite wood products o Ceiling and wall systems

An indoor air quality management plan will be developed and implemented during construction per the requirements in LEED V4.

Individual thermal controls will be provided for at least 50% of individual occupant spaces, and group thermal comfort controls will be provided for multi-occupant spaces.

Lighting controls will be provided that enable occupants to adjust the lighting to suit their individual tasks and preferences, with at least three lighting levels or scenes.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENTStormwater management plan not required by Zoning code: total new development less than 50,000 s.f.

No increase in impervious surfaces.

New landscaping provided along Forbes Avenue, at west facade of Field House addition, and adjacent to Lobby addition.

Construction Management Plan

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT PLAN

SCOPE:

• Transportation Routing – No re-routing of public transportation is anticipated.

• Street Closures and obstructions – All proper street closure and obstruction permits will be obtained and closely coordinated with the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works.Disruptions on Forbes Avenue are expected to be minimal and primarily related to utility tie-ins.

• Debris/dumpster maintenance – Dumpsters will be located on site within the confines of the project site fence.

• Work Crew Parking – Workers will be responsible to acquire their own off-site parking and transportation. No parking will be permitted on site, or within the neighboring streets.

• Site Maintenance – The project site will be fenced in and protected from the general public. Extra care will be taken to ensure the safety of students, faculty, parents, visitors, etc. to theschool during construction.

• Duration of Construction – June 2018 thru March 2019 (projected).

MITIGATION MEASURES:

• Construction Noise – Construction operations and operating hours will be in accordance with current City of Pittsburgh’s zoning requirements.

• Traffic – All required permits, signage and barricades for the street closures and obstructions will be coordinated Department of Public Works to minimize impacts to pedestrian andvehicular traffic.

• Parking – General public parking may be affected on Forbes Avenue. Any disruptions will will be coordinated with the Pittsburgh Parking Authority.

• Air – Dust generating activities will be limited to exterior facade masonry restoration and the construction of the parking garage. Rock construction entrances will be utilized to minimizethe spread of dirt and debris on the streets, which will be cleaned to minimize dust.

• Light – All temporary lighting measures required by OSHA will installed in the areas under construction.
