Between 2000 and 2002, major upgrades included the construction of a large fluid catalytic cracking unit, alkylation unit and continuous catalytic reformer unit. Since Valero’s acquisition of the refinery with the purchase of Orion in 2003, nearly $4.5 billion has been invested, making the plant one of the company’s more complex refineries. These investments enabled the plant to process additional heavy feedstocks, increase throughput capacity, upgrade its product yields and improve on-stream reliability. The St. Charles facility provides intermediate feedstocks to other Valero refineries located along the Gulf Coast. The Valero St. Charles Refinery’s major process units were built in the early 1980s or later, making this refinery one of the newest in the United States. Between 2000 and 2002, major upgrades included the construction of a large fluid catalytic cracking unit, alkylation unit and continuous catalytic reformer unit.

Since Valero’s acquisition of the refinery with the purchase of Orion in 2003, nearly $4.5 billion has been invested, making the plant one of the company’s more complex refineries. These investments enabled the plant to process additional heavy feedstocks, increase throughput capacity, upgrade its product yields and improve on-stream reliability.
