Registration - We welcome you to the Parish Community of Saint Cassian, and invite you to register with us by contacting our Parish Office during office hours. You must be registered in the Parish for Baptism and the Religious Education Programs. We urge all parishioners to make regular use of the envelopes. If you are moving from the Parish, please notify the Parish Office. Attention Parishioners - Recent changes in laws and regula-tions governing hospitals have made it necessary for hospitals to tighten the access of outside visitors, including clergy, to infor-mation about patients in the hospital. New policies now in effect require that patients must request that clergy from the patient’s faith community be contacted and allowed to visit. Clergy will not be allowed to visit unless this request is made. If you are or a loved one is hospitalized, please call the Parish Office.

Dear Parishioners: Again, this week I pray that all are well and enjoying the beginnings of summer time. A special con-gratulations to our St. Cassian School graduating class of 2020! It was a difficult last quarter of the school year and their resilience and ability was like no other class of St. Cassian School. Congrats, Class of 2020. Well done! I want to take this opportunity to again thank you for all of your kind words and support especially during these past few months. They have been difficult times, but the future is looking brighter and brighter. And a special thank you to those who have continued your financial support of the parish. Your thoughtfulness, whether through Faith Direct or by mailing your envelopes into the parish have helped us to maintain our operations. Like you, I’m very much looking forward, though, to seeing you all in person again. Hopefully soon. In the meantime I wanted to remind you again that we have a special blessing that will occur here in the parish in the next few weeks. Longtime parishioner, reader and Eucharistic Minister, Roberto De-metillo will be ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Newark and will probably serve us in our Parish. I want to use this as an opportunity to speak about Holy Orders and the diaconate and the three-fold office of the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. Deacons, whether they are permanent or transitional (transitioning from the deacons to priests), all share in the priesthood of Christ, but to a lesser degree. Deacons receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders and have been called by God for this sacramental ministry. Roberto, who will be called “Deacon Roberto” upon his ordination, will be ordained to the Permanent Diaconate meaning that he will serve as a deacon, sharing in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Gospel, preaching, baptizing children, celebrating weddings, and giving blessings, among other activities. “Deacon Roberto” will share to a lesser degree in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ, while ordained priests (such as I or any parish priest, for example) share in a greater de-gree, while bishops share in the fullness of the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. The diaconate, from its origins in the first century, was created and given to the Church in order to preach the Word and provide for the poor and the needy. That is all biblical. Deacon Roberto, who will be ordained on Saturday, June 27th at our beautiful Cathedral, and will serve at the altar in a spe-cial way, as well as read the Gospel and speak Christ’s words in his homilies. I am so looking for-ward to his ordination, as he’s receiving the Sacrament of Holy Orders and will be of service to our Parish. God bless soon-to-be Deacon Roberto Demetillo! Earlier yesterday, Governor Murphy announced that he was lifting the “stay-at-home order” and al-lowing larger gatherings. We are officially entering Phase Two for church openings on June 15th. Last night, the Archdiocese sent out new directives about how we will be opening the churches. It will allow for us to open for daily Masses next week. Our daily Mass schedule for next week will be Tuesday (June 16), Thursday and Saturday at 8:15 am. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will con-tinue for that week at the regular scheduled times. The new restrictions allow for up to 50 persons in the church for these daily Masses, but all must continue to distance, wear face coverings and sanitize their hands.
A Message from Fr. Marc

Prayer for Spiritual Communion
Dear Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Most Holy Sacra-ment of the Eucharist. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive your Body and Blood. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacra-mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. Stay close to me, Je-sus, so that I may be close to all our sisters and brothers, especially those who are most in need of your loving care. Amen.
e who are most
-2- Phase Two will also allow for funeral Masses with 50 persons or fewer . Baptisms will be par t of Phase Two, but I would prefer to celebrate baptisms in groups instead of just one at a time, therefore, we will hold off a little while with the baptisms until the congregation can be a little bit larger. Phase Three of the reopening of churches will begin with Sunday Mass on June 21st. We will begin our Summer Mass Schedule on that day with the Saturday evening 5:30 Mass, followed by the Sunday morning 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 Masses. We will maintain this schedule until September. There will be a need to register for Masses either online or by calling the Parish office. The 5:30 pm and 9:30 am Masses will be designated as “family Masses” so that families can sit together while all others will be required to socially dis-tance. More information on this will follow and I thank you in advance for your patience. Lastly, this week we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus, which used to be known as Cor-pus Christi. On Sunday we celebrate Jesus’ Body and Blood, the Eucharist, being the central mystery of our Catholic Christian lives. Yet for so long, now, so many of us have gone without receiving Holy Communion. We suffer because we don’t receive Him and His grace. In a time when our country is so divided over many things and we see such a lack of peace all around us, we need Our Lord’s physical presence and divine grace more than ever. Hopefully everyone is making spiritual communion using the prayer in the weekly bulletin, asking God for the grace that we would have received in Holy Communion. It will be interesting to celebrate this Solemnity with so many people not receiving Holy Communion. Hopefully this absence of the Eucharist in your lives and in the lives of all church members, particularly these days, will cause you to desire Him all the more! My prayer is that soon everyone will be sharing the Eucharist again, our beautiful foretaste of the Eternal Banquet. Many blessings to all of you, Fr. Marc Fr. Marc A. Vicari, Pastor

_________________________________________________________
Dear Friends of the Archdiocese,
I want to take a moment to thank all of our priests, staffs and parishioners serving on the frontlines of this pandemic, particularly our first responders, law enforcement officers, nurses, doctors, teachers, volunteers, chaplains, and so many more – who witness coura-geously to Christ’s command – “love one another as I have loved you.” In one way or an-other, perhaps, more aptly, in many ways and another, they have striven to continue the mission of Christ and his Church and truly lived the Christian call to faith, hope and charity.
As an Archdiocese, we strive to care for and serve all the People of God and, in a special way, the needs of the poor and vulnerable, boldly proclaiming the Gospel, and forming the next generation of Catholics through our programs and ministries. Although a little more hidden, distanced, and in new ways these last few weeks – we continue to shine Christ’s light and ensure that all who come to us still have their physical and spiritual needs met. All our people have worked hard together, using former and new ways to bring the sacraments to the faithful, food to the hungry, assistance to those in need. Us-ing their time, talent and treasure to continue the mission of Jesus Christ, I’ve heard countless stories of disciples offering “five loaves and two fish” so that the Lord might “feed” thousands.
I express my profound and heartfelt thank you if you have already made a gift to the 2020 Annual Appeal. Your generosity allows the Church of Newark to continue “feeding” all God’s children. Your gift will have a direct impact on the lives of all those we serve. If you have not yet made a gift, may I ask you to please take a moment to pray about it, and kindly consider how you can support the mission of our local Church. Now more than ev-er, your help is needed to sustain our parishes and ministries.
With gratitude and imploring God’s abundant blessings on you, I remain
In Christ,
Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Nydegger Vicar General

“Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.”
1 Corinthians 10:17
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to lead holy lives and invite others to join us. Living a stewardship lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts, serves a twofold pur-pose. One, it helps build God’s kingdom here on earth. Two, it helps us strengthen each other’s relationship with God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It becomes our roadmap to Heaven. Let’s help each other get there!

Stewardship and Faith Legacy Fund “Wish List” Included is a list of particular needs the Parish has or perhaps a project that we are working on. This makes up the Legacy Fund projects or items. It is a “wish list” of pro-jects/items that I would like to have funded. The purpose of the Parish Legacy Fund is so that Parishioners who are interested can give directly to the particular needs of our Parish in a way that is strictly “restricted giving.” This means that any money that is donated for this particular project or items is not assessed by the Archdiocese of Newark and we do not need to pay an assessment on them. I met with my Legacy Fund subcommittee recently and we determined the following items as either priority needs or projects we hope to have funded in the future. We will continue to pop-ulate the Legacy Fund list so that if anyone is inspired to give for a specific need, you can do so. *Rectory Roof (project for Spring 2021) $32,000 Funded: $13,030 Pew Refurbishing (Funded) 1,500 Communion Bells (for Mass) (Funded) 300 Lavabo Set (Basin & Ewer) (Funded) 700 Thank you for helping us reach our goal with previ-ous items on the list.

Annual Appeal The 2020 Annual Appeal is underway. To date, 142 families pledged $57,720 (74%) towards our goal of $78,000.
If you have not received material in the mail, please pick up a brochure at the back of church. I encourage all families to prayer-fully consider giving to the Annual Appeal so that our parish is represented 100%.
We will continue to accept your pledge until our goal is reached. Please give according to your means. Thank you, Fr. Marc A. Vicari
Online Giving with Faith Direct For those who were not aware and would like to continue their contribution to the church, we have added a “Make a One Time Gift” link to our parish website. If you use this offertory option and know your envelope number, please include your number in the note section.
Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code: NJ514. Thank you for your continued support of our parish.
Blessings, Fr. Marc Vicari, Pastor
They say that every cloud has a silver lining. As we navigate through this cloud of pandemic, the silver lining is that we have resources that were not available to the generations before us that had to deal with illness, disease and isolation. We are able to connect with our family, friends, school and even our faith communities through the use of social media and other technical outlets.
While we miss being able to be with our fellow St. Cassian parishioners and we miss being able to be in the Church to receive the Eucharist, this time that we have can be a time of grace! We will be streaming and using our new par-ish Facebook page to our spiritual advantage not only during this time but moving forward. Fr. Marc will be leading us in a virtual Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament which allows us to recognize the True Presence of Christ with us wherever we are. The Evangelization Office will also be hosting devotions such as the Rosary and insights into the Catholic Faith. We will look at topics such as the Bible, what the Church teaches about the saints, Church History, etc. We will also be doing a virtual tour of St. Cassian Church itself revealing what many of the symbols and stories in the stained glass tell us about our faith and our community.
We look forward to sharing these moments with you and are awaiting the time when we can be together again. Our prayers continue for you and your families!

FAMILY SPRING VOLUNTEER DAY has been postponed for the time being, and we hope that we can regroup and do some-thing in-person later in the spring. If not, then we will be working on ideas for a virtual volunteer event. Stay well, as al-ways, you will all be in my prayers in the coming days and weeks.

I want to thank our CCD students and teachers for con-tinuing with Religious Education during these trying times.
I am especially proud of you, our students, who log onto your Zoom class after spending your day with distance learning.
I will say, it has not always been easy for you or our teachers as we have had to learn to ‘meet’ electronically each week.
CCD registration for the 2020/2021 school year will open (electronically) in a few weeks.
Have a safe and wonderful summer and may God bless all of you with good health,

A Note from Mrs. Maria Llanes, Principal
Faith as a Central Pillar of our St. Cassian School Community
With the physical doors to the school and parish temporarily closed and remote learning becoming our new nor-mal, our school community continues to turn its voices and hearts to the Lord from the confines f our homes. Together, we continue to connect, to teach, to learn, to pray and keep faith as a central pillar of school life.
Daily prayer continues to be a focal point of our online learning. Every week, our Staff also joins together remotely, ro-saries in hand, to pray for the needs of not only our St. Cassian community, but for the needs of the world through the inter-cession of our Blessed Mother. This past week, we came together again with our students and their families to continue the tradition of prayer in our school communi-ty and participate in, very likely, the most important work of our day: pray-er….Prayer for one another….Prayer for our school…. Prayer for our world.
As we entered Holy Week, our sixth grad-ers read the Stations of the Cross as other students and parents joined in prayer. A school Mass was also celebrated virtually on Wednesday, April 3rd by Fr. Marc with all of our students and many parents as
