The Paper Pulpit
Dear Parishioners,
The Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally referred to as “Good Shepherd Sunday.” Each year on this Sunday, the Gospel reading presents Jesus as the Good Shepherd. It’s a beautiful and consoling image of the Lord caring for his flock and seeking out the lost. Outside the north entrance of the church here at St. Bron’s, we have a beautiful statue of the Good Shepherd. On His shoulders, He carries a lamb. Every time we pass that statue it is an invitation to see ourselves as that lamb that the Lord carries. We are always in his loving care.
Today, we are also called to reflect upon how the Lord continues to care for His flock through the ministry of those ordained to serve as deacons, priests and bishops in the Church. In the gospel today, Jesus speaks about laying down His life for the sheep. The Lord continually invites others to also lay down their lives in service to God’s people. In today’s world, it is often hard for young people to hear this invitation and so we need to constantly pray for vocations – that more men will hear and respond to the Lord’s call in their lives.
Our diocese is being blessed with an increase in seminarians studying for the priesthood. Of course, this requires that we are generous in supporting their education and formation. We do this through our giving to the Diocesan Annual Appeal. If you’ve not yet made a gift to this year’s Appeal, please consider doing so as a means of supporting our future priests.
This Sunday, we are also celebrating First Holy Communion here at St. Bron’s. On behalf of everyone, I want to congratulate our young people as they receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time. Please join me in praying that our children and their families will continue to grow in their love for our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. May Jesus, the Good Shepherd, be their constant companion and guide on their pilgrimage of faith.
God bless and have a great week!
Father Ed
PS. This year we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of La Crosse. An impressive, full color book has been published containing fascinating historical information about our diocese and our parishes. You can see a copy of this book in the Parish Office. The books are available for purchase for $33.00.

Imagine the Priesthood Praying for the 2018 Seminarians
We encourage you to pray for the seminarians as a way of showing your support. Every week we will list a different seminarian. This week, we ask you to pray for:
Ethan Hokamp Theology III Our Lady Queen of Heaven, WI Rapids
Heavenly Father,
Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere.
With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The Sacrament of Baptism What a joy it is to welcome a new child of God through Baptism! It is a blessing for the Church and
for the world. The following children celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism on April 14th.
Caroline Marilyn Schreiner, daughter of Christina and Evan Schreiner
Abigail Halina Kramer, daughter of Megan and Justin Kramer
God bless their parents and godparents as they together bring up the newly baptized to lead a life of grace in harmony with the Baptismal promises.
The Rossier Family
Please remember in your prayers, Rick Rossier who died on April 13th.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 17th.
May Rick and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

share the Gospel, through reading and activity. Children will return to the church for the Eucharistic Prayer. Extra Gospel Time activity sheets are available in the gathering space.
Sharing the Gospel Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He wants you to help your family and friends. Jesus wants to guide you like a shepherd guides the sheep. Do what you can to help others. Bring in a bag of groceries. Take someone a drink of water. Get a blanket for someone. Or just sit down and listen to a friend's funny or sad story. Then you will be a good shepherd just like Jesus.
Prayer Jesus, show me ways to help my family and friends.

Hospice/Palliative Care Presentation: Wednesday, April 25
th at 6:30 - 8:00 pm at St. Ladislaus Church, Bevent.
None of us likes to think about our loved ones dying or our own death. But we know that part of life is dying. It is becoming more common for people who are critically ill or up in age to express their desire to die at home. It is becoming more common for people to choose whether they wish to have all kinds of machines and modern medical technology keeping them alive at the end of their lives or if they wish to have comfort care at the end of their lives. Hospice and Palliative Care offer are wonderful opportunities for people to choose to have the care they desire. Hospice (often called Comfort Care) and Palliative Care works to provide compassionate care for people in their homes, in the hospital and in other living facilities. When active treatment is no longer the focus of care for an illness, hospice care concentrates on relieving symptoms and supporting patients and their families. Hospice patients generally have a life expectancy measured in months rather than years. Although hospice cannot add days to a person's life, it most certainly can add life to their days. There will be several people here to help us understand the difference between hospice and palliative care and the difference they can make in the lives of ourselves and our loved ones.
Opera for the Young

We get complimented on it every year!! Now is a great time to be busy looking for items for our Cherry Tree. Check out the 11% off at Menards or crazy low prices at Shopko. Many great items at excellent prices. Our Cherry Tree takes more than 8,000 prizes to make it successful. That's a lot of prizes!!!! There are many ways you can help too. Last year, we had bikes, electronic games, Packer football, Brewer's Cooler, crock pots and so much more. Items we are in need of are small and large items for both kids and adults. Some suggestions are:
For KIDS - large items Board games Sports equipment - Basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, etc Outdoor/water toys - Slip and slides, squirt guns, nerf toys Remote control items Pool toys/floats/beach towels Stuffed animals Movies Electronic Toys
Any sponsors are recognized and listed on our posters placed in 2 locations by the Cherry Tree.
Other Suggestions? We are open to any suggestions, just give us a call or send a note!
We can pick up items if it is easier or they can be dropped off at the church. Please mark items Cherry Tree for easier sorting.
Thank you so much for considering donating and making both the Festival and Cherry Tree a huge success!
Any questions please call Kelley Pearce at (715) 252-1358 or Jody Glodowski at (715) 341-6700, Ext. 107 or email [email protected].
We are grateful and truly blessed to have the support of our wonderful parishioners, THANK YOU!
