Having Masses said for other persons,
living or deceased, is a deeply held tradition in the
Catholic Church. The Mass is the making present again
of the offering of Jesus Christ on the cross, a gift of
unlimited value. When we have Masses said for those
who are deceased, we exercise our role as members of
the communion of saints, praying for those who have
gone before us in death. When we have Masses said for
those who are alive, we ask the Father’s grace and
blessing upon them.
Prayer Line This is a network of people who pray for special intentions.
Call the parish office and leave a message regarding for whom
you would like prayers said.
Please, make your donaon checks payable to

Bills have been introduced in both the Massachusetts House of Representatives (House Bill #3320) and the Senate (Senate Bill # 1209) that would serve to “remove obstacles and expand abortion access.” Cardinal Sean recently published a statement about these bills that can be read here: https://thebostonpilot.com/article.asp?ID=184756. There are five easily identifiable major issues with these bills. If passed, the law would:
• allow abortion on demand in Massachusetts for all nine months of pregnancy.
• remove any requirement that even late-term abortions be performed in the hospital.
• remove any need for a pregnant minor (under 18) to receive any consent whatsoever (from parents or the courts) before undergoing an abortion procedure.
• eliminate any requirement that efforts be made to save the life of a baby that survives an attempted abortion procedure.
• fund these types of abortion through the “Healthy Start” program even for women who do not qualify for MassHealth.
What can you do? You can contact your State Representa-tive and Senator (by phone, email or mail) and urge them NOT to support this bill. If you do not know who your legislators are, you can go to www.malegislature.gov and click on the link that says, “Legislators.” From there, you will find a tab that says, “Find Your Legislators.” Click on this tab and enter the requested information.

We are collecting new and used soccer and volleyball balls in good condition for the SMA Fathers. This year the SMA Fathers will have 17 priests visiting and working in the Archdio-cese of Boston for July and August.
The balls will be sent home with them, and they will distribute them to the youth in their area. Please leave deflated balls in the bin in the closet at the back of the church by August 15. If you have any questions, please contact Jen at the Parish Office (781) 444-3434.
RAEC BL C?=ADEA;9 I9AEA;EAB9 BL A@:<ED (RCIA) Are you someone, or do you know someone, who:
• Is not Catholic, but has expressed interest in becoming Catholic?
• Has not been baptized, but would like to be?
• Has been baptized, but has not received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation?
Saint Bartholomew’s Parish is offering an oppor-tunity to such persons to learn more about the Catholic faith and to prepare to receive these Sacraments of Initiation if they wish. The program begins with a period of inquiry and discovery and then becomes a time of preparation to receive these sacraments at the Easter Vigil.

Growing in Faith together has been a GIFT to each of us as we have met this past year every Wednesday morning. We have been graced with some new parishioners joining us which only goes to prove that 'our prayers were answered.' We hope many more will join us next September 18th when our new season of prayer begins. Please have a safe, healthy, happy, and prayer filled summer. Remember, prayer never goes out of season.
AMY’S BOOK CLUB On June 3rd we met for our last time this season. It was a fun filled time, questions abound, book review opinions, and occasionally we solved a few of the world's problems, if only others would listen. Our book review was for our current selection Jeffrey Archer's TELL TALE. It was a book full of short stories, beautifully written, unanimously agreed. Mr. Archer had been challenged to write one story in EXACTLY 100 words, no more, no less. He wrote 2. His life history and accomplished writing skills have produced many successful novels, well worth the read. Read, read, read this summer and enjoy. If any-one comes across a read that must be shared, please contact me and I will forward your thoughts. We will resume our book club meetings on September 30, 2019 at 12: 30 pm in the O'Brien room. (Last Monday of the month our meeting dates)

STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE Sharing: Time Talent Treasure
"JESUS SAID TO HIM, 'GO AND DO LIKEWISE'." It seems that the shorter the sentence, the fewer words that Jesus uses, the greater the impact these words have in our lives and should have in our behaviors. These words come from last week's Gospel about the good Samaritan. The Samaritans and the Jews despised each other. And yet, it was a good Samaritan who stopped and cared for the injured man left on the road, when others had passed by, looked at him bleeding, and left him to die. And 'who is my neighbor?' This we have just been asked in another Gospel reading.
These Jesus' parables are particularly relevant today with all that is going on in this country and around the world. War is against anything that people believe in or wish to have happen, especially near where ones lives. And yet all around the world in many countries young people have grown up in their home land knowing nothing but living in a war torn situation. Obviously defending one's self and one's home land when others come forth to challenge you is a necessary evil. But no one in any way desires a war that goes on for years/decades and just surviving becomes a way of life. Unable to tolerate the horrors all around the world that are being committed, good people have finally left their homes and all that is dear to them and tried to find a safe place in which they can live, love, and be safe. Most leave with little more than what they can carry on their backs. Without exception these fleeing people are entering almost every country in the world seeking refuge. To most countries the numbers of homeless people arriving and trying to find a new home have been overwhelming. What to do. "Who is my neighbor?" This world wide problem has no easy answer. And what if part of the answer involves me and it affects my way of life? Most world leaders are struggling to find this answer. And most are trying. If one looks closely, many people, not necessarily those in power, are offering help: churches offering to take families in and finding housing, food, and jobs; governments setting aside some housing; individuals offering a family help; agencies setting up to welcome displaced people; companies offering to do what they can; and etc. These are individually small answers but could develop into something much larger with nationwide recognition, planning, organization, and assistance. The defini-tion of neighbor as defined by our God does not leave anyone of us safely and quietly at home never to speak up or do anything that we can. We can not idly sit by and ignore what is happening in our own little world. WE need to address our local and national leaders and not accept excuses for lack of action to address and solve this problem. Our neighbors are lying on the roads dying and for too long. Would anyone in their right mind want to take their children and walk a thousand miles or more to seek another country, a different language, knowing no one, just for a change? One very positive note from all this are the immigrants who have spoken up about all the generous people who have fed and clothe them on the way of this journey. "At times my children did not stave! People fed us. They gave us water." A river begins with a drop of water. Let us all pray and individually decide what each can do. Pretending that this problem is too difficult or it doesn't affect me is not an acceptable answer. The good Samaritan gave of his time, his talents and his treasure to help his 'neighbor'. Stewardship: a way of life. The Samaritan was answering the call to be that good steward. Jesus asked us to be a steward of all His Father, the Creator, gave us. And nothing is more precious to God than each one of us, His children. How can we in any, never mind good conscience, look away, when not one but millions of His children are suffering? Even Mr. Rogers continuously asked "Won't you be my neighbor?"
