Pilgrimage to Holy Land & Jordan

Barbara and Raymond, a senior married couple, were sipping wine at the parish picnic.

Suddenly, Barbara whispered softly and tenderly, "I love you so much, I don't know if I could ever live without you."

Raymond looked over at his wife. "Is that you or the wine talking?" he asked.

"It's me," responded Barbara, "talking to the wine."

HELP US KEEP ST. BARNABAS LITTER FREE! St. Barnabas School is introducing a recycling program and we need your support! In order to create a clean and trash free environment, we need all parishioners to play a part as well as the students. You will notice new trash and recycling bins on the church and school grounds. Please look before you toss! There are signs on the bins indicating what should go in each bin. Please deposit trash, recyclables and plastic bottles/cans into the appropriate bins. In order to sustain our recycling program, all money raised from the collection of empty plastic bottles and cans will be used to support the recycling program. Thank you for being part of the solution! "We are not God. The Earth was here before us and was given to us."

SAVE THE DATE!!! Our Ministry Fair will be at the Parish Hall on Sunday, September 13th. We are blessed by our active and vibrant ministries. Please take advantage of our Fair to become acquainted with our Parish Ministries. Here’s a few more of our Ministries and their purpose.

PEER MINISTRY This ministry is an opportunity for recently confirmed youth to work alongside their peers to serve as youth leaders in our faith community, participating and facilitating Confirmation sessions, music ministry, retreats, sacramental preparation, service projects, and more. This ministry connects them to their faith community and empowers them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to become evangelizers of their faith by word and action. We meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:15-9pm in the Parish Center.

PLANNING AND BUILDING The newest of our ministries, this group was formed to address and correct issues facing the structure of our church. After identifying and analyzing potential projects, they began working through them in order of immediate need. This team is always seeking willing hands and support.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INTIATION FOR ADULTS RCIA is for adults (age 18 and up) who are wishing to join our Catholic Faith, or are in need of completing their Sacraments - Communion, Confirmation, Reconciliation, or having your marriage blessed in the Church. Meeting on Wednesday evenings from 7:15pm to 9pm in the Fireside Room of the Parish Center. Everyone is welcome to grow in the knowledge and Faith.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY This ministry follows the precepts of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in that it is our belief that life occurs at conception. Further, that all human life deserves respect from conception to natural death. This premise includes many aspects but being opposed to assisted suicide, the death penalty and abortion are primary on their focus. Ill Treatment of the elderly, persons who are mentally challenged, and others who unable to care for themselves are also areas of concern.

SACRISTANS The role of a sacristan in the life of the parish is active and involves a good amount of creativity, organizational skills and diplomacy. Sacristans are responsible for preparing the Church for the Sacrifice of the Mass. They must work with all in ministry to ensure that there are altar servers, extraordinary ministers, lectors and ushers, and they must be able to fill in for any of these ministries. They must be alert and vigilant for any problems that could occur during the course of the Mass. They must keep God’s house in order. It is a challenging, but rewarding ministry to know that all has gone well during their watch.

Ministry Fair SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN

This ministry plays a crucial role in assuring that the safeguard

initiatives found in the United States Catholic Conference of

Bishops Charter for the Protection of Children and Y oung

People have been made a priority in our parish and school in

the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and that the Archdiocesan safe

environment programs, policies and procedures are being

implemented throughout the parish/school and its community.

USHERS AND GREETERS

Their mission is to provide general care of our worship

space and create an environment where all feel welcome.

They provide assistance to our fellow parishioners and

visitors by greeting them with a warm welcome, opening

doors, assisting with seating, collecting the gifts of our

community, handing out bulletins and providing any other

assistance requested by our Church community.

WORSHIP ENVIRONMENT

This ministry works daily in the quiet hours of our

Church, putting together beautiful arrangements and

putting forth a gorgeous setting. Though you may not

witness their time and offering, you do see the fruits of

their labor each time you enter our Church.

BAPTISM PREPARATION

To insure the growth of our Catholic Christian Faith and

Tradition, this ministry conducts Pre-Baptismal

Preparation with the goal of catechizing couples and

preparing them for their child’s baptism. The faith that is

given a child is a gift of God, but experienced through the

parents and the community. Infant baptism can only be

significant if parents, aided by Godparents, guide and

expose the child to experience in faith the presence of the

Holy Trinity as an important, alive and meaningful God in

their life.

This ministry is seeking 1 to 2 more couples to join the

Ministry. Once a month one couple leads a weeknight

baptism class for parents and godparents that is 90 minutes

to 2 hours long. Details on the sacrament of baptism and

the ceremony are presented along with group discussions

on specific ways the parents and godparents will support

their child's faith journey. During the monthly baptism

ceremony, one couple checks in the families, hands out

baptismal certificates, and assists the celebrant (mainly

Deacon Carlito de Los Reyes) with some of the readings

and altar responsibilities such as lighting candles, moving

oil etc. Months are rotated between the couples in the

ministry with monthly time commitments of four to five

hours. Depending on the number of couples, each couple

would volunteer between 3 to 6 months per year.

Maybe God is calling you to be a member of our team to

help teach, inspire and prepare families so that their

children can enter our Church and become members of the

Body of Christ.
