Thank so much.

With Christmas falling on a Monday this year, some have inquired if attend-ance at Christmas eve Masses on Sunday after-noon fulfills both of our

obligations (Sunday Mass and Christmas Mass). Nice try, but the short answer is NO. We are re-quired to attend Mass 2 times next weekend: for the Sunday obligation (4th Sunday of Advent Mass-es on Sat. and Sun. morning) as well as Christmas Masses on Sun. afternoon and Mon. morning. I do not want you to be disappointed when coming to Sunday morning Masses and we are not celebrat-ing Christmas, because it’s not Christmas! It is still Advent!! No “2 for 1 deals” when it comes to our obligation to attend Mass.

A word of sincere thanks for all those who participated in this year’s Giving Tree. Many fami-lies and children benefitted be-cause of your generosity. God Bless!

SOLEMNITY OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD

JANUARY 1, 2018 MASSES ON MONDAY AT 8AM AND 10AM

Because this Holy day falls on a Mon-day, the obligation to attend Mass is lifted. However, we encour-age all to join us as we celebrate this

feast honoring our Blessed Mother and pray for her intercession as we begin a new year. A Blessed New Year to you and your families.

Page 4: St. Anthony’s Church · Sun. 12/24 7:30AM Memorial—Amadeu Roxo ... Please consider making tax deductible contributions to St. Anthony’s Church. Thank you for your support

There will be NO Faith Formation classes this weekend or next due to the holiday break. Our classes will resume as normal on Sunday, January 7 and Monday, January 8 with our regular Sunday & Monday classes (gr.1-7). Our next pre-Confirmation (gr.8) and Confirmation (gr.9) session will be on Sunday, January 7th. I hope you all have a very blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding Faith Formation, please contact Jonathan Galo. Check also our newsletter on the Faith Formation page of the parish web-site listed on the front cover of the bulletin.

A FINAL ADVENT THOUGHT…. In a few hours, many of you will return to church to celebrate Christmas with us. We will be joined by many people who do not regularly attend Mass or are guests in the area who have come to be with their families. At some of the Masses, especially on Christmas Eve, we will perhaps have stand-ing room only. If you see one of our many guests who might be standing, offer them not only a word of welcome but how about offering them your seat? No, I am not crazy, but we can at times show frustration rather than joy that people are coming to join us at these Christmas Masses. Maybe that person, for one reason or the other, has been away from the church for years. Imagine if their experience of our commu-nity was so positive that they might want to re-turn next week? We can only hope. But, isn’t that what the spirit of Christmas is about …...….hope? See you later. Fr Steve
