ST. ANTHONY FEAST, Sunday - June 12.

St. Anthony, our patron saint feast will be held on June 12, 2016. As we did last year, both Masses, 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., noon, will be combined in one bilingual Mass at 12 p.m., noontime, following by a delicious lunch. Moreover, our Centennial Directory will also be available for the people to pick it up. Please, save the date and join us for this special occasion. Let us celebrate St. Anthony’s feast with joy and gratitude. Saint Anthony: pray for us!

A reflection on Corpus Christi

What does Corpus Christi mean to me? It does not only bring the liturgy to mind; for me, it is a day on which heaven and earth work together. In my mind’s eye it is the time when spring is turning into summer; the sun is high in the sky, and crops are ripening in field and meadow.The Church’s feasts make present the mystery of Christ, but Jesus Christ was immersed in the faith of the people of Israel and so, arising from this background in Israel’s life, the Christian feasts are also involved with the rhythm of the year, the rhythm of seedtime and harvest. How could it be otherwise in a liturgy which has at its center the sign of bread, fruit of earth and heaven? Here this fruit of the earth, bread, is privileged to be the bearer of him in whom heaven and earth, God and man have become one. The way the Church’s feasts fit in with the seasons of the year is therefore not an accident. Consequently we must go on to discover the inner rhythm of the Church’s year and see the place Corpus Christi has within it. First of all, clearly, it grows out of the mystery of Easter and Pentecost: it pre- supposes the Resurrection and the sending of the Spirit. But it is also in close proximity to the Feast of the Trinity, which reveals the inner logic in the connec- tion between Easter and Pentecost. It is only because God himself is the eternal dialogue of love that he can speak and be spoken to. Only because he himself is relationship can we relate to him; only because he is love can he love and be loved in return. Only because he is threefold can he be the grain of wheat which dies and the bread of eternal life. Ultimately, then, Corpus Christi is an expression of faith in God, in love, in the fact that God is love. All that is said and done on Corpus Christi is in fact a single variation on the theme of love, what it is and what it does. In one of his Corpus Christi hymns Thomas Aquinas puts it beautifully: nec sumptus consumitur - love does not consume: it gives and, in giving, receives. And in giving it is not used up but renews itself. Since Corpus Christi is a confession of faith in love, it is totally appropriate that the day should focus on the mystery of transubstantiation. Love is transubstantiation, transformation. Corpus Christi tells us:Yes, there is such a thing as love, and therefore there is transformation, therefore there is hope.And hope gives us the strength to live and face the world. Perhaps it was good to have experienced doubts about the meaning of celebrat- ing Corpus Christi, for it has led us to the rediscovery of a feast which, today, we need more than ever.

Reflexão CORPUS CHRISTI

Jesus se entregou “por” nós sobre a cruz, em nosso favor; seu sangue derramado é redentor, como para os hebreus, no Egito, foi o sangue dos cordeiros pascais, untado nos umbrais das portas. A última ceia de Jesus com os apóstolos era a ceia da Páscoa judaica, na qual se comia o cordeiro pascal. Jesus lhe dá novo significado, como “ceia da nova e eterna aliança”, selada no seu próprio sangue. A Liturgia faz constantes referências a este aspecto “sacrifical” da Eucaristia, ceia pascal dos cristãos. Antes da comunhão, a Eucaristia é apresentada ao povo com estas palavras: “eis o cordeiro de Deus, que tira o pecado do mundo”. Na cruz, Jesus é o “cordeiro imolado” entregue inteiramente pela nossa redenção, “para que não pereça todo aquele que nele crê”. Por esta “entrega por nós”, alcançamos misericórdia, perdão e vida sem fim. A Eucaristia é também “sinal de unidade e vínculo da caridade” (S.Agostinho). Chamando a atenção da comunidade de Corinto para a dignidade da celebração Eucarística, Paulo recorda que “o pão que partimos é comunhão com o corpo e o sangue de Cristo” e, portanto, “nós todos somos um só corpo”, em Cristo (cf 1Cor 10,16-17). No Prefácio da Santa Eucaristia, o celebrante proclama: “fazeis de todos nós um só coração, iluminais os povos com a luz da mesma fé e congregais os cristãos numa mesma caridade”. A Eucaristia é banquete de irmãos à mesma mesa, unidos todos numa só família, “em Cristo”. Nela, nossa comunhão no amor de Cristo e na mesma fé da Igreja é significada e realizada. Por isso, o dissenso da fé eclesial e a orientação individualista e egoísta da vida são atitudes contrárias à participação neste sacramento. A Eucaristia é também “pão da vida eterna”. Após o milagre da multiplicação dos pães e dos peixes, Jesus convida as pessoas a procurarem “o pão vivo descido do céu”, que é ele próprio: “eu sou o pão vivo descido do céu. Quem comer deste pão viverá eternamente. E o pão que eu darei é a minha carne para a vida do mundo” (Jo. 6,51). Cristo quer continuar a ser o alimento da nossa fé. E quem dele se nutre, “viverá para sempre” (cf Jo.6,58). A Eucaristia é celebrada aqui na terra “até que Ele venha”. Por isso, ela também é sinal e anúncio profético da grande esperança que vem da nossa fé: aquilo que acolhemos na penumbra da fé e celebramos por sinais na terra, é o mesmo que ainda

esperamos e se tornará plenamente manifesto na vida eterna: “anunciamos, Senhor, a vossa morte e proclamamos a vossa ressurreição. Vinde, Senhor Jesus! “Quanta riqueza, na Eucaristia! Não é sem razão que, em Corpus Christi, a Igreja adora e aclama este “sublime Sacramento” – “Sacramento de Jesus Cristo e da sua Igreja”! Vinde, todos, adoremos e rendamos graças ao Senhor!

FESTA DE SANTO ANTÔNIO

Domingo, 12 de Junho, celebraremos a festa do nosso padroeiro, St. Antônio. A Missa das 9 a.m. continuará no mesmo horário e, a das 10:30 a.m. em Inglês, e 12 p.m. em Português serão uma única e celebração, bilíngue, às 12:00 p.m. - meio dia. Em seguida haverá o almoço no parking lot, ao redor do Santo Antônio. Desde de já convidamos a todos para participarem. O livro do centenário da paróquia com todas as fotografias dos paroquianos estará disponível para levar. Ainda, se alguém quiser colaborar como os gastos da fé, por favor, faça a sua doação para a equipe do dizimo.

No dia 25 de junho, teremos a festa Junina. É uma festa da comunidade que quer cultivar as tradições e divulgar a cultura brasileira. Por isso é uma festa em que todos os paroquianos deviam sentir-se envolvidos.
