Waterstone’s Book Visit

o Children really enjoyed this – chose own books for Reading Ambassadors and Book Club.

o Real sense of ownership over their book choice – checked by teacher.

o Aware of locality of a good children’s book shop.

o Two parents attended to promote importance of visiting book shops with children.

o Plan to go again in Year 6.

Reading Ambassadors

o Successful at boosting confidence of certain children – put them in charge of reading.

o Developing reading with expression.o Understood the purpose of a book is to

bring enjoyment and engagement – can see instant feedback with nursery children.

o Established closer links with nursery with aim to develop in Year 6.

Targeted Book Club

o Children discussed book outside of class with peers.

o Sense of exclusivity, reading is valued/special.

o Forum led by children, chance to discuss their enjoyment rather than focus on reading skills.

o Concern over children’s book choice not being suitable for every reader’s ability.

Success Criteriao By end of year:

o 80% of children had made at least two N.C. sub levels progress.

o 53% of children made at least three N.C. sub levels progress.

o But children’s enjoyment of reading at centre of project.
