Graduation Requirements for Students Entering 9th Grade
The 83rd Texas Legislature passed House Bill 5 into law changing the high school graduation plans for all students who were freshman during the 2014-15 school year and thereafter. 2. Complete all requirements from the Foundation High School Plan (FHSP) – Basic course credits that all students must complete.

The Texas Education Code, Section 28.025(b), allows a student to graduate under the Foundation High School Program without earning an endorsement if, after the student’s sophomore year, the student and the student’s parent/guardian are notified of the benefits of graduating with an endorsement and the student’s parent/guardian gives written permission for the student to opt out of an endorsement. The benefits of graduating with an endorsement are available in the Graduation Toolkit, produced in partnership by the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the Texas Workforce Commission. This document can be found at https://tea.texas.gov/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=51539608601. A Spanish version can be found at https://tea.texas.gov/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=51539612909. Under the Foundation High School Plan without an endorsement, students are required to complete 27 credits to graduate as listed below:
Foundation High School Plan Credit Requirements (27 Credits) English 4 Credits Social Studies 3 Credits Physical Education 1 Credit Mathematics 3 Credits Foreign Language 2 Credits Technology 1 Credit Science 3 Credits Fine Arts 1 Credit Personal Health & Finance 1 Credit Electives 8 Credits
Students must declare their preferred Endorsement(s) in writing by the beginning of their 9th grade year. Students may change their Endorsement(s) with parental notification during their 9th grade year or at the beginning of their 10th grade year. By the end of the student’s 10th grade year, no endorsement changes can be made.

Personal Graduation Plans (PGP)
8th Grade High School Success Class
Students will choose their Endorsements after researching personal interests, careers, Endorsement options and long-term career goals in the 8th Grade High School Success sessions conducted in the fall semester during English classes with counselors from both the Middle School and High School campuses.
Career Cruising Students’ four-year Personal Graduation Plan will be completed online through Career Cruising and is accessible to the student, parents, and guidance counselors. To access Career Cruising, go to www.ssisd.net and select the Campuses link. Choose Sulphur Springs High School. The Career Cruising link is located on the left-hand side of the screen under the “Useful Links”. Students will log in with their student IDs and a unique password that they will create.
Once students have selected their Endorsement(s), guidance counselors will enter their Endorsement selections into Career Cruising. Students can track their progress in completing graduation and Endorsement requirements within the Career Cruising system.
Each student must have a four-year Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) created during the spring of 8th grade with the help of his/her guidance counselor. Parent participation is VITAL. Parents should meet with their child’s guidance counselor to discuss the plan and are required to approve the plan and their child’s Endorsement selection in writing. Each year the PGP will be reviewed with the student.
