Michelle Butts and Cindy Parnell are a mother and daughter team that have been in business for 8 months and have just loved their growing business in Chelsea! “We still are meeting new customers everyday” and “In our store you will fi nd things you don’t normally see in the department stores” according to Cindy Parnell (mom). Cindy has had a retail clothing store over 12 years ago and was delighted when Michelle was interested in opening up on in Chelsea. “Things seem to really be growing in Chelsea” is what she told her mom when they were deciding on the location. They have a lot of customers that are glad to not have to go over the mountain and a lot of customers from over the mountain who prefer to have a slower pace shopping environment. Join the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce in Welcoming Oaxaca Mexican Grill as a new restaurant in Columbiana. Felix Rural is the owner and is married to Kimberley and has two children. He is excited to have a business in Columbiana and is eager to be involved in the community. His food is wonderful and they are offering a buffet, YES a buffet during the lunch time hours to help accommodate the lunch crowd with respect to their time. Not only is the food great the atmosphere is magnifi cent with beautiful music playing and cold margaritas in different fl avors such as peach, mango and strawberry along with a nice selection of Mexican beer. The restaurant can accommodate a little less than 100 people and has adequate space for groups. The restaurants hours are Sunday thru Thursday 11-9pm and Friday and Saturday 11-10pm and the lunch buffet is 11-2pm every day. Coffee House here in Chelsea is staying Open” according to the new owners Jeff and Rhonda. Being friends with the previous owners of Ekklesia and a customer themselves these folks enjoy the hospitality, free Wi-Fi, services this business offers the residents of the Chelsea area. The Coffee House is a local treasure to everyone in the community and is home to a lot of groups that meet to do business, organize, and play games, study groups and more. The Coffee House now has 5th quarter where it is open till midnight on the Friday nights after all the home Chelsea Football Games. Their slogan reads “More than just coffee…” and we can see why as their menu offers hot and iced specialty drinks, fresh brewed coffees, sandwiches, pastries, yogurt parfaits, and more. Join the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce in welcoming Sherby Green, owner of Kritter Kuts in Columbiana! Sherby grew up in Westover and right outside of her business door is where her husband proposed to her 39 years ago when the building across from her was a Dairy Queen.

She recalls a lot of memories in Columbiana growing up. A favorite, fond memory is of her grandmother telling her that she felt the animals on the farm understood her more than people did. Sherby states, “I guess she and I have that gene in common. It is for sure the pets coming into KRITTER KUTS know we love them.”

“We are interested in quality of service, not the “quantity serviced” here at Kritter Kuts” according to Sherby. Their logo is “Where your pets are pampered and loved like they are our own.” Kritter Kuts has a really great atmosphere and it is mostly the enthusiasm Sherby has about the pets and her business. This walk able business is located at 120 Old Hwy 25 West in Suite 3 across from Beverly’s BBQ. Her prices are so affordable and she has maintenance plans that offer you a discount for you and your furry friends. She is a licensed groomer that absolutely loves animals. She specializes in dogs and does take in a few cats.

Haven’t ever taken your dog or cat to a groomer don’t worry she is very customer and pet oriented and will work with both of you until both the owner and pet are comfortable with her and the shop. You won’t need an appointment for a bath but you will need to schedule one for a grooming. If you have hunting dogs they you might be excited to know that they will be offering a Self Wash and Go, this will enable your hunting dogs to come home clean.

Cadence Bank is headquartered in Birmingham is located in six states and has over one hundred branches it is privately owned. This bank employs fi ve people and one mortgage specialist. “Coffee with the Mayor” in Harpersville was held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 8:00am the Harpersville Town Hall. Mr. Rayfi eld, Mayor Pro Tem gave the invocation and complimented Mayor Perkins on his attitude and enthusiasm for the town.

Everyone enjoyed a big breakfast, contributed and sponsored by local businesses and town friends. Mayor Theo Perkins welcomed everyone, introduced the businesses, elected offi cials, and many others and also thanked everyone for all the wonderful food. Donna Smelcer, the chambers President thanked everyone for participating in the chamber coffees. Below is a list of sponsors and participants. Mayor Perkins announced the Harpersville Heritage Tour scheduled for Saturday October 20, 2012 beginning at Morgan Creek Vineyards at 9am till 12 Noon.

The Wooden Spoon Bakery is coming soon to Columbiana, Alabama! Owner Leslie Arnold is gearing up to open in mid-October. Scones, Cheese Biscuits, Small Pastries, and Custom Cakes for Weddings, Birthdays and Anniversaries are just a start for this new bakery entrepreneur. “It all started when my husband bought a stand mixer for me as a birthday and graduation gift,” according to Leslie. She started making scones and taking them to EBSCO Industries where she works full time. She began getting so many compliments that she asked some co-workers if they would purchase the scones on a regular basis. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response, she decided to start her own business. Leslie is married to Josh Arnold and they have a three year old son, Graham. Josh is an attorney at Wallace, Ellis, Fowler, Head and Justice and his grandfather is G.W. Weldon, whose family ran the Weldon store in Chelsea. They are residents of Columbiana and are excited about having a business in town!

Wooden Spoon Bakery offers a wide assortment of baked goods from World’s Best Brownies and Cookies to Red Velvet, Hummingbird Carrot and Italian Crème Cake, as well as custom event catering. Wooden Spoons Bakery’s signature item is its scone, which comes in a wide array of fl avors including, but not limited to: Black & Blue (berry), White Chocolate Apricot, Caramel Apple, and Cherry Lemon Poppy Seed. This list is ever-expanding as Leslie experiments with new combinations on a regular basis.

Being a mom with a full time job, Leslie initially plans to be open on Saturdays from 7am-3pm and will fi ll orders during the week by appointment and on-line. Saturdays will feature walk in bakery items, daily specials, custom order pickups and of course samples for people to explore. The bakery will also feature milk, juice, fresh-roasted coffee, and coffee by the pound and more. Leslie is already taking custom orders for the holidays.

South Shelby Chamber of Commerce welcomes Rev. Green Calhoun Jr., Community Relations Coordinator with the Jimmie Hale Mission. Rev. Calhoun actually started working on the frontlines of the Mission in 2006 as a chapel on its men’s campus. “I love meeting and helping the less fortunate and for them to see the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ,” he said with a smile. “Now, I love sharing with our community leaders the work of the Mission and how together we can change the lives of many in Central Alabama.”

The Jimmie Hale Mission has been helping homeless and hurting men, women and children in Birmingham area since 1944. What started as a storefront chapel has grown to

include a shelter for homeless men, substance abuse recovery programs, fundraising thrift stores, Bible clubs in public elementary schools, learning centers for education remediation and career readiness, and a shelter for women and children called Jessie’s Place.

In the last six years, more than 800 men and women have secured employment through the Mission’s programs. Last year alone, nearly 65,000 beds were provided and 209,000 meals were served. On behalf of all the lives that have been helped and changed, Rev. Calhoun says, “Thank you to our supporters. We couldn’t do it without you!”

Rev. Calhoun visits the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce as well as other chambers including Greater Shelby, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Homewood, Center Point and Irondale. As a community relations liaison, he also visits ministerial groups such as Shelby Baptist Association, Birmingham Baptist Association, Bessemer Baptist Association, and Birmingham Ministers Conference.

We are excited that the Jimmie Hale Mission is a member of the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce and is sponsoring our November 1st luncheon. Meet Faye McGuire, First Vice President of the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce and long time resident and business entrepreneur of Vincent Alabama. Faye has been at the bank in Vincent since 1976 the year the building was built and the manager for over 20 years! “Vincent is my home place of 68 years” according to Faye. She and her husband Billy love Vincent because it is a small town and everyone knows each other and there is a lot of people I have known all of my life. Growing up in Vincent Faye has attended the Vincent High School through all of her grades because the Vincent High School was the elementary and middle back in the day. With schooling under her belt from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College now know as Central Alabama Community College she has been in the numbers ever since.

Frontier Bank has four full time employees and a full time ATM. Everyone likes the bank in Vincent because of the hometown feel and the community atmosphere. “I enjoy working with the chamber of commerce because it does associate with our community and it helps everyone to know who to shop with and how we can help each other.” explains Faye.

8. Award to be presented at the 2012 Diamond Awards Ceremony December 6, 2012, held in conjunction with the Chamber’s Christmas Luncheon at 12(noon) at the Columbiana United Methodist Church.

9. Previous award recipient will make presentation at the 2012 Diamond Awards Ceremony.

Nominations: Because the Chamber encourages nomination of as many candidates as possible, both individuals and organizations may nominate individuals for Citizen of the Year. A candidate may be nominated more than one year; however, a new Citizen of the Year nomination form must be updated and submitted each year.

Nomination Procedures: Each nomination must include an essay stating why this person deserves to be Citizen of the Year. In addition, the nomination may include up to three letters of recommendations, if desired. Newspaper and magazine articles may also be included, if desired. The nomination form along with the Essay and any other attachments must be received no later than November 9, 2012 and
