Here we are with the sixth edition of Muse! In the world of fashion, time moves fast. Many of you are already aware of Muse and are anticipating its arrival every season, and we thank you for your support. I would also like to offer a warm welcome to all our new readers with the Spring Summer 2010 issue.
So what is new at AlOthman? Following our great success with the O blog and the daily interaction with you, our valued clients, we have learnt more about how we can improve our already successful customer service. First will be the opening of the AlOthman Outlet store in Maryam Complex. This will enable you to discover those classic designer items that never go out of style at irresistible prices. Who knows, you may find that piece you regretted not purchasing last season waiting for you!
I have recently realised that in these busy times, it is often impossible to find the window to visit our stores for that ultimate shopping experience. So our second new project will be to bring the store to you, through the AlOthman Online Outlet. You can simply log on to www.alothmanoutlet.com and make your purchase, safe in the knowledge that your order will be dealt with in the secure and professional manner you can rely on from AlOthman.
Each season we are truly flattered by the positive and complimentary reaction Muse receives from our designers. Many of them offering to contribute in different and imaginative ways. This season, Erdem has personally sent us his sketches of the exclusive gowns we have developed with him for Spring Summer 2010. I hope you will agree that it is exciting to see the original inspiration from such a talented designer.
We are proud to present edition six.
Enjoy!

RSDesigners didn’t let the recession get the best of them. The runway looks were a cluster of festive spangles and sparkles. Shimmering fabrics in rich metallic shades and lavish embellishments lift dressing (and spirits) to a whole new level.
With a trend that weighs no less than 24-carats, keep the accessories to a minimum. Dare to wear metallics as daywear but go for the fitted, plain, and sophisticated pieces.

Christian Louboutin Designers played with contrast, crafting
sensual sheer and lacey fabrics into conservative classic cuts. Sheer pieces came in a mixture of soft and feminine, to the opposite extremes of tough luxe.
To wear sheer from runway to
“real way”, you must master the
art of concealing and light weight
layering. And make sure you wear
this trend for the right occasion.

Dramatic, decorative, and deeply glamorous. There is nothing frivolous about these pieces. A one-of-a-kind creation is this season’s statement piece that you will treasure forever.
More is more. Think lavish details, extravagant
shapes, delicate draping, and structured shapes.

Runways took a break from technicolor–blocking trend and turned to an all time favorite: white. Designers have given the classic color a trendy feel with edgy cuts, a new twist on collars, voluminous sleeves, and fancy frills.
Look for neutral accessories in a complimentary tone to set off your dress. Or go for deep colors like turquoise or coral to stand out. And use a self-tanner to give your skin a little glow

Make an ultra-modern statement with this season’s dizzying designs, mix’n’unmatch graphic prints, and romantic florals to give your look a modern brilliance.
Pair the patterns with this season’s sky-high
architectural heels in neutral tones and a
dramatic cuff. For evening glam, offset the
vibrant prints with a sleek plain clutch and a

Forget about eye-popping colors this season, ice-cream colors, washed out greys, and peach hues in urban-chic silhouettes redefined summer’s biggest trend, bringing a cool edge to this perennial classic.
The aesthetic here is simple, clean, and elegant. Compliment the trend with gilded jewelry and black accessories.

From the sculpted lines of multi-layered cuts, to sharp tailoring, to high-tech fabrics, Spring runways presented styles that have look-at-me impact and brought the "power suit" back to the foreground of fashion.
This season’s footwear calls for flamboyant, attention-grabbing details. Our selection of fierce flats and skyscraper heels will command all the right kind of attention to your feet.
Chunky and sculpted shoes are your nod to this season’s power
dressing, and they offer an instant style update.
Remember to prep for your walk. So pedi
your toes, keep your back straight with your
head up, and round out those shoulders.
Now work it girl like it’s your runway!

Animal prints are here to stay with this safari inspired dress by Proenza Schouler. The deep colors paired with these gorgeous strappy tan Christian Louboutin heels make it THE outfit for all those outdoor summer parties.
PS. Complement the dress with a great bronze tan for added exoticness!
Channel you inner Grecian goddess in this airy and ethereal Halston jumpsuit, the metallic color will melt against your sunkissed tan and the ruffles will move with every step you take. The green shade and golden trims of the Christian Louboutin slingbacks lend a feminine touch to the suit, but don’t forget to pile on those golden bangles for a full on divine look!
Wearing anything by Marios Schwab makes me feel exceptional. The way he used sheer white fabric with structured silhouette is plain genius. This look sums this season’s trends characteristics: edgy, soft, and fun. And my studded Christian Louboutin heels? Love at first sight!
AlOthman Blog is the number one destination for fashion enthusiasts and shopaholics in Kuwait. It provides a daily editorial of the hottest and most sought after designer clothes and accessories carried by AlOthman. But first, meet the O Blog Team:
Flirtatious feathers and candy colors are the perfect combination for the playful season ahead. Jason Wu gets it right once again. The metallic python of the Christian Louboutin pumps adds yet another texture and glitz to the entire look.
I love how Rabih Kayrouz created such simple yet feminine designs. The tailoring is just exquisite. The peach shade of the Christian Louboutin peep toe heels is one of my favorite colors, and adds a great pop to the white dress. My ideal springtime outfit!

Exploring American heritage and tradition; Spring 10 takes the Alexander Wang brand in a new and fresh direction. Elements such as collegiate sports, football and rugby, camping and boy scouts are referenced, bringing a strong focus to utilitarian functionality. Many of the pieces are based around the idea of sturdy items that are weatherproof and industrial, characteristic of a uniform. The idea of a uniform is referenced throughout the collection in a variety of ways, not only symbolically but also physically, as Wang attributes the dry hand of the fabric, stiff militant collars and the permanent creases of the folds into his Spring 10 pieces.

For Spring, Decarnin brought out another whammy of a no-brainer blockbuster: disco cavewoman goes to the front. His army of sizzling, sleek-limbed super girls strode out with huge-shouldered, metal-epauletted military tailcoats. Their T-shirts were tattered; bullet belts were slung around artfully "destroyed," stained, and holed jeans or, yet more sensationally, minute, hypersexed, raggedy suede and leather loincloths. Patching together seventies M*A*S*H and early Versace chain-mailed goddess-dressing, the show moved from camouflage to sequined camouflage to patchworked gold-sequined camouflage without a flicker of irony or the slightest fear of treading on politically sensitive ground.

The collection is a modern mixture of luxurious fabrics with a pared down louche silhouette, offering more structured separates that can also be mixed to indulge a heady night time aesthetic.
The palette, inspired by David Hockney’s Beverly Hills pools series, reveals peaches, corals, aqua, silvers and gold’s and is also prevalent in the core range of BodyAmr. Relaxed, comfortable and easy to wear seperates of fluid skirts and silk knit T-shirts swim with the brand’s recognisable seductively draped evening wear.

Bruno Frisoni
The Spring 2010 Collection celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the house of Bruno Frisoni. This collection is inspired by Frisoni’s great classics: the “Americano” – a perfect pump in denim; the “Camarguaise” boot; the ballerina “Bouton,” of course not forgetting the eternal elastic “Criss-Cross” and the “Bow Beau,” perhaps Frisoni’s most recognizable silhouettes.

My 11 year old son was bored one day while I was working on some skins.
I saw him busy but I didn't see him painting on my raw stingray skin....
I got worried for a second but when I saw what he had done, it became the pathway to my collection for Spring/
Summer 10. I asked my 2 other daughters to paint and together we
created a collection that will forever be dear to my heart.

every collection. This season there are studs, animal prints, a lot of texture and mixing of fabrications, such as

fabrics used, and we added new, shiny skins that have a modern feel.

Rising like a phoenix, she is a modern myth, the queen of the desert, a true adventurer, exploring and enticing. An Orientalist figure set in marbled temples or against a backdrop of dazzling blue sky, she is a reflection of her surroundings… wearing a drop-waisted gown draped fluidly in grey silk or a sun kissed cotton voile column adorned with descending daisies. Shredded chiffon creates the illusion of feathers while leather paillettes shine like coins on a gladiator shift. Effortlessly, she sets out across horizons… in leopard jodhpurs, faded blue leather shorts or a floor-sweeping skirt. Her delights are in the details; a tiger’s face peeking out from a cashmere cardigan, hammered metal spun into an airy bolero, or bright red sequins tiled onto chiffon. Ready to reveal or conceal with her layers… of jersey tees, draped silk, and foiled lace.

I was inspired by a muse contemporaine and the elegance

color palette is one of the desert sky from dusk to midnight, from
soft twilight beige to sunset red, from evening blues to deep
midnight black. -Elie Saab

Elizabeth and James’ Spring 2010 Women’s collection mixes pop embellishments with washed down fabrics, evoking a gritty downtown 80’s vibe reminiscent of New York City’s Mudd Club era. Tonal tie-dye adds dimension to the collection’s luxe jersey staples. The sought-after buttonback shirt is reinvented with an adjustable zippered gusset. Strong, edgy styles with leather panels and distressed linen are balanced by delicate floral gauze and silk button downs. Elizabeth and James Spring ’10 collection is a modern take on the experimental downtown fashion that prevailed in 1980's New York City.

Erdem
It was a visit to the Kyoto National Museum of Art during a holiday in Japan, when Erdem stumbled across a series of arresting images of Mogas or Modaan Garu, meaning modern girl. Just as the Americans had Flappers, and the French, Garconnes, Mogas date back to the Twenties and were a group of avant-garde Japanese women liberated from convention and tradition, who rejected the kimono in favour of Western values and dress. Other sources of inspiration followed: like the initial sighting of Miyajima, a lush island south of Japan and spotted in the thick fog that day via its famous landmark; the Torii Gate which was built in 1875 and majestically glows a fluorescent orange.

Erin Fetherston
Spring 2010 is inspired by the memory of a childhood visit to Nara, Japan, a place I remember as a pink forest overrun with wild deer. The

The collection is inspired by Halston’s Fragrance re-launch and pays tribute to the sensuous shape of Elsa Peretti’s infamous fragrance bottle.
The new bottle has been refreshed with a metallic finish, and inspirits Halston’s Spring 2010 ‘Pure Metallic’ Collection.
63
Spring 2010 ‘Pure Metallic’ examines Halston’s circular and ruffled patterns from the spring of 1978 & 1981. The voluminous designs are reinterpreted as fluid modern shapes through draping of asymmetric ruffles & circular pods. Fabric selection adds dimension and glamour to each silhouette: metallic coated jersey, silk chiffon lame, mixed metallic jaquards and textured embroideries reflect light and accentuate the movement in each garment.

Halston Heritage

The secondary collection, a first for the brand, will reinterpret Halston archival pieces into wearable creations. For Spring/Summer 2010, the Issa woman is enveloped by a 'Tropical Storm'. Her journey takes her to the exotic gardens of Babylon, Eden and the Amazon rainforest.
As heavy thunder clouds darken and lightening strikes, nature prepares for the tempest; we dive into the tropical forest where armies of ants march to shelter and anthurium flowers are showered with rain drops.
This electric atmosphere inspired our vibrant prints and the narrative metal embellishments featured within the collection.

Elegant technicality. Fluid emotion. These are tenants of J Mendel’s Spring 2010 collection. Designer Gilles Mendel, inspired by the biomorphic works of artists Noriko Ambe and Tara Donovan, manipulates luxurious fabrics in an innovative way to create a subtle uniqueness for each piece.
“It’s the idea of structured fabrics and adding an element of softness using draping and intricate cut work”, says Mendel. “Each piece is an emotion”.

Jason Wu
Jason Wu displays greater surety and sophistication with each collection. Inspired by the artist Tara Donavan and the muse was Sally from the Tim Burton film, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jason Wu set out to take casual, everyday pieces of American sportswear and re-create them in beautiful, super-luxe fabrics. The collection is an expression of Wu’s pretty
polished esthetique. Cool girls and chic women are the base of his clientele. Blush pink ostrich feathers with a lime
green satin belt, high drama gold silk faille and a cheekier aqua/black point d’esprit hand draped
dress. This show was a confident leap forward for the 26 year old designer.

Luisa Beccaria
74
The Luisa Beccarria Spring / Summer 2010 collection embraces femininity that evokes the 50’s Hollywood glamour and brings a fresh new perspective to the brand’s romantic aesthetic. Like the timeless beauties that often wear them, Nicole Kidman and Eva Mendes for example, these clothes are playful and sweet emphasizing the brand’s creed of true elegance and sophistication.
75

Marchesa
Marchesa’s Spring 2010 Collection softly embraces the drama and romance of Madame Butterfly. Delicately draped layers of tulle are showered with bugle beaded flowers and finely crafted threadwork. Figure hugging shapes in soft tints of blush, mint and lilac are accentuated with hand painted tattoos. Translucent silhouettes are elegantly sculpted with horse hair and structured corsets. Cream, white and black silk chiffons and crepes are embellished with intricate handmade origami and sculptured necklines.

The SS10 collection is inspired by split page books, which are designed to allow the reader to mix and match different
combinations of the book’s contents, giving them the ability to create a variety of personalised combinations and storyline.
I started by creating three garments that represent past, present and future fashions, showing them individually at first, then cutting
and fractioning them equally into three sections. These are then connected under the bust, waist and hip in numerous combinations,
creating a triptych of different eras in each complete look. -Marios Schwab

The Spring Summer 2010 collection showcases the evolution of the Matthew Williamson woman. This season demonstrates a powerful style which combines with the brands traditional strengths of embellishment, colour and striking prints. Inspiration drawn from the artist Jim Lambie materialises through abstracted tropical floral prints which are combined with strong graphic elements also expressed through the cut of soft jerseys and tailoring incorporating triangular seams, panels, and exposed darts.

This Spring I was inspired by images of Masai Warriors. The color palette is in earth

This season Tia Cibani journeys into the enigmatic past of India’s Mughal Dynasty, an era rich in culture, art, and creativity. In particular Tia turns to an empress of Persian descent, the legendary beauty Nur Jahan, known as much for her poetry and artistic sophistication as for her political power.
Ports 1961’s sojourn into the past is an experience in a grandeur as relevant today as it was in the time of the Mughals. At a moment of challenge in our own history, we look to the very human need to rejoice in beauty and art. Luxury today can be defined in the process of creation, and in the discovery of beauty in the simplest gesture and the grandest spirit.

Zero + Maria Cornejo
The dynamic relationship we have with our surroundings;
the beautiful tension of organic elements pushing through the cement of an urban landscape are what inspired me most. If left unattended, nature would
take over startlingly fast. I love the energy of the city but
always feel the pull of nature, so I find myself grabbing moments
wherever I can. -Maria Cornejo
