Secure Recycling Services (SRS) appreciates your diligence in recycling items and keeping them out of the landfill operations which, in turn, protects our environment as well as benefiting people with disabilities including disabled veterans.

A business division of Kreider Services, SRS recycles commercial and residential waste in Northern Illinois and is the only recycling facility within a 70 mile radius of Dixon, Illinois with R2 Certification. SRS was named the 2013 Business of the Year by the Dixon Chamber of Commerce.

SRS is a comprehensive recycler of multiple lines of materials including electronics, cardboard (OCC), paper, plastic, metals and wire. The recycling center also accepts clothing, shoes and purses that are not suitable for resale. In the near future, SRS will begin secure document destruction, with certification from the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID).

Growing Operation SRS’ operation is located at 629 Palmyra Road in Dixon, IL in a 70,000 square foot facility, which has allowed for the addition of other recyclable lines. This growth has also created job opportunities for people with disabilities including veterans. SRS is the only facility on Dixon’s north side with a truck scale.

Plastic SRS has the capability of processing both hard and soft commercial plastics. The shell material from recycled electronics has added to SRS’ poundage of hard plastics. Over 100 tons of plastic was recycled last year.

Metals / Wire Aluminum cans, scrap, wire and copper items can be recycled through SRS. The recycling center just purchased new equipment to granulate and separate copper from plastic insulation. SRS will soon be able to purchase metal and aluminum.

Cardboard With a capacity of processing four tons per hour, the large horizontal card-board baler of SRS is processing cardboard product from commercial and residential customers. Last year SRS recycled 2,485 tons of cardboard.

Collection Events SRS hosts recycling collection events several times each year. These are hosted in collaboration with county solid waste offices. SRS also partners with festivals to make them “green”. For more information, please visit the SRS web site.

Electronics SRS is registered with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an authorized collector, recycler, and re-furbisher of electronic materials. SRS is an R2:2008 and 2013 Certified Facility. R2 Certification covers requirements associated with environmental, health and safety, and data security practices of electronic recycling operations. SRS is also certified in ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. A total of 882 tons of electronics was recycled at SRS in 2013.

Paper / Books SRS is collecting and processing office paper, newsprint and shredded paper for recycling back to mill operations. SRS has expanded these capabilities to accommodate Illinois business needs.

Document Destruction Document destruction is SRS’ newest division of recycling. Shortly, SRS will become the only NAID Certified location within 50 mile radius of Dixon. Certification will include extensive training on the proper destruction of confidential documents. The shredding area will be secured with video surveillance and only authorized persons will be allowed into the document destruction area. This new operation will allow local hospitals, banks, government agencies and corporations to have document destruction done locally rather than sending it to other states or countries. Part of the certification will include HIPAA compliance.
