ABOUT SPU

Sripatum University (SPU), one of the oldest and most prestigious pri-vate universities in Thailand, was established in 1970 by Dr. Sook Poo-kayaporn by the name ” Sripatum College.” The name “Sripatum” meaning “Source of Knowledge Blooming like a Lotus” was conferred on the college by Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother.

In 1987, the college was promoted to university status by the Ministry of University Affairs, and has since been known as Sripatum University. From then on, the University has expanded to four campuses:- Bangkhen Main Campus in Bangkok- Phayathai Campus for Executive Programs located in CBD area- Chonburi Campus near the country’s Eastern Seaboard.- Sripatum University KhonKaen – Gateway to the Northeastern Region

The university’s main goal is to create well-rounded students who can develop themselves to their chosen fields of study and to instill the stu-dents with correct attitudes towards education so that they are enthusias-tic in their pursuit of knowledge and self-development. This will provide the students a firm foundation for the future after graduation.

In March 2002, Sripatum University has reached another key milestone for being accredited by the International Standards Organization (ISO9001:2000) for both undergraduate and graduate pro-grams.

Sripatum University is a private university, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010. Graduates of Sripatum University are acknowledged by professional and academic organizations. The university continuously develops its academic courses and its teaching and learning methods as well as developing resources important for development of the university such as lecturers, staff, technology, buildings, and environment. The university places importance on faculty members with knowledge and experience as well as various student activities to increase student’s knowledge and ability so that they grow to be intelligent, decisive, reasonable, independent, and flexible people. The university welcomes everyone and wishes everyone success in their studies.

THAILANDTHAILAND is a wondrous kingdom, featuring Buddhist temples, exotic wildlife, and spectacular islands. Along with a fascinating history and a unique culture that includes delectable Thai food and hospitality, Thailand features a modern capital city, and friendly people who epitomize Thailand’s “land of smiles” reputation.

BANGKOK is the capital, largest urban area and primary city of Thailand. Known in Thai as KrungThepMahaNakhon, meaning “city of angels” for short, it was a small trading post at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya King-dom. Bangkok is considered to be one of the world’s tourist hotspots. Bangkok is Thai-land’s major tourist gateway, which means that the majority of foreign tourists arrive in Bangkok. The city boasts some of the country’s most visited historical venues such as the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and WatArun. There are numerous projects to maintain Bangkok’s historic sites in the Rattanakosin area and river districts.

GEOGRAPHYLocated in the center of Southeast Asia, Thailand is truly at the heart of the region.  Looking over a map of Thailand will reveal a country whose borders form the rough shape of an elephant’s head.

WEATHER & TEMPERATUREThe weather in Thailand is generally marked by three seasons, the rainy season, hot season, and cool season, though the climate is generally pleasant year round.

RELIGIONWhile religion in Thailand is centered around Buddhism, people in Thailand have compassion and tolerance towards any religion and welcome others to study Buddhism or learn to meditate.

POPULATIONThe population of Thailand comprises of roughly 65 million citi-zens, the majority of whom are ethnically Thai, though peoples of Chinese, Indian, Malay, Mon, Khmer, Burmese, and Lao origin are also represented to varying degrees. Approximately 7 million citi-zens live in the capital city, Bangkok, though this number varies seasonally and is otherwise difficult to accurately count.

ECONOMYThe Thai economy remains largely export driven and robust and re-mains the second largest in Southeast Asia.

LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATIONThe Thai language can be tricky to master, but most Thais speak English and encourage visitors who try to speak Thai.

Thailand travel is convenient for visitors as there are many ways to get to Thailand by bus, air, or rail, whether your destination is Bangkok,Phuket, Chi-ang Mai, or the most remote provinces. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) serves as the primary international air-port in Thailand for numerous interna-tional airlines, most with direct flights from abroad landing in the Thai capital. However, some chartered flights and international service from nearby Asian nations may land at one of the other, smaller international airports within Thailand, such as Phuket (HKT), Chi-ang Mai (CNX), Hat Yai (HDY), and KohSamui (USM) International Air-ports. Airport Rail Link provides train service at the maximum speed of 160 km. per hour on an elevated track paral-lel to the eastern railway, which covers the distance of approximately 28 kilom-eters, passing through 8 stations; Phy-athai Station, Rajprarop Station, Mak-kasan Station and City Air Terminal, Ramkhamhaeng Station, Hua Mark Sta-tion, Thab Chang Station, Lad Krabang Station, and Suvarnabhumi Station. • The Thailand bus network is argu-ably the number-one mode of trans-portation both in and around Bang-kok, as well as for long distance travel.

• The Bangkok bus system features bus-ses of various size, type, and cost. This is due to the fact that there are both public and private city busses. Although wait-ing for a Bangkok bus can be a sweaty and air-polluted prospect, so can walking from A to B. If you are on a budget and don’t mind a little adventure, hopping on a bus that appears to be going your way will only cost you as little as 8 baht. • Bangkok may arguable have more tax-is than any city on Earth. Not only are they plentiful, they are very reasonably priced now that meters have become the norm. thereafter.Rates for a Bangkok taxi begin at 35 baht ($1 US) and then charge 2 baht for the first two kilome-ters and 2 baht per kilometer thereafter.

• Thailand has two pri-mary metropolitan rail lines, the BTS skytrain, consisting of two Green Lines (Sukhum-vit and Silom) and the first of several planned MRT underground lines, the Blue Line.

• Bangkok’s MRT under-ground Blue Line is the newest addition to the metropolitan rail system.

• One of the most iconic modes of trans-portation, the tuktuk is a truly Thai vehi-cle. The colorful, noisy, open-air tuktuks are both a “must ride” experience for both visitors and locals to quickly travel around.

HENRY “On the first day I came to the University, I really felt isolated, and I was missing my family so much. By that time, I said to myself, “you have no others who can help you here, just depend on yourself ”. And then, to my surprise, the teachers and schoolmates have been very friendly to me and warm-hearted! I got along well with them, then I no longer felt afraid. I really feel that the school is very good. When I was at home, I was just eager to go back to school, to experience the wonderful campus life. This feeling is what the school gives me, so I like our college.” - Haoran Li (Henry), from China, Program of International Business Communication, Sripa-tum International College

” I really enjoy studying at Sripatum University. Here, I feel as com-fortable as another home of mine. There is private lounge newly built on the 8thfloor of Building 11 for International College students which has special and modern design. The students including myself often use it for relaxation and getting prepared for next classes. I’d say studying here is a good decision I made. Instructors are very ener-gized to teach, also the classes are very interesting, so easy to under-stand the whole lecture. Besides, there are many activities outside the University I can join, which gives me chance to make more friends, learn to be social, and experience things out of the book.”

- Phat Kyo Nguyen, from Vietnam, Program of International Hotel Management, Sripatum International College

KYO

I have been a student at Sripatum University since January 2009, The Staff at SIC especially Student Services Representative told me eve-rything I needed to know, I really appreciate how they call and email to always keep me informed. The teachers are always kind and very professional and they’re always willing to help to students. I would love to say that, it was really a great opportunity for me to study at “Sripatum International College” . I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge , I have been able to learn new Skills and I met new people from different countries and cultures there at SIC. I found so many friends , that I’m still in touch with most of them. Striatum In-ternational College is the perfect environment for learning. I would definitely recommend the school to anyone.
