integration of all transport systems to complement each other

using new technologies and related developments. Transport

Improvement of access to the Colombo port

Port Access Road

Port access road has been planned for providing

easy access to cargo and container traffic

Colombo and Suburbs to reach Colombo Fort

and Harbour. (17 km approximately)

New Kelani Bridge

Construction of a new bridge accommodates 6-

lane traffic with 380m length parallel to the

existing bridge connecting Airport expressway

and Base Line Road.

• Ongoing/ Proposed Development Projects: East Container Terminal – Colombo Port

Expansion Project; Prequalification process is in progress

GALLE PORT

• Natural harbour

• Most active regional ports in the country

• One of the world's best attractions for yachting

• Ongoing/ Proposed Development Projects: Galle Port Development Project: Design

works is in progress

TRINCOMALEE PORT

• Second best natural harbour in the world

• Tentatively identified to cater for bulk and break bulk cargo and port related industrial

activities

• Ongoing/ Proposed Development Projects: Development of Trincomalee Port; RFP

documents has been prepared.

MRMR PORT

• One of the major development projects

• Located very close proximity to the major international east-west shipping

route and well positioned at a strategic location on maritime gateway to India

• Ongoing/ Proposed Development Projects: Hambantota Port Development Project

Phase II; Civil construction work is completed.

OLUVIL PORT

• Government of Sri Lanka, in its plan to give impetus to economic development in

the Eastern region, has decided to build a port at a site in Oluvil.

• This port will form the southeastern link in the developing chain of coastal

harbours in the country and will provide more convenient and cost effective access

KANKESANTHURAI PORT

• The project is planned to repair and rehabilitate the existing breakwaters, piers and

roads including dredging and wreck removal and construction of a new pier.

• Construction of new electrified railway lines To improve the connectivity by rail especially for high passenger demand areas Kottawa-

Horana, Paliyagoda-Kosgama.

• Colombo Light Rail System (LRT) project To improve the connectivity and reduce the travel time among main nodes in CBD area &

Suburbs

• Implementation of new inland water transport system To introduce new transit mode of inland water transport in the East-West direction in the

Colombo region

establishment of integrated and inclusive transport system

and bus stands to provide better facilities to passengers.
