This Sri Lanka Directory of Environmental NGOsconsists profiles of over 700 Environmental Non GovernmentOrganizations(NGOs) in 24 Districts of Sri Lanka. It also includestheir status, Contact persons, Mission, Activities, E-mail, fax,phone numbers, mailing addresses, Websites etc.,

The Directory has been complied by a research andeditorial team mobilized by the Sri Lanka EnvironmentalJournalists Forum(SLEJF), one of Sri Lanka’s leadingenvironmental Organizations whose membership of nearly 1000includes media professionals working in all sectors of the massmedia. SLEJF is a non-profit organization committed toinfluence, encourage and promote sustainable developmentcommunication and awareness building among the public in SriLanka. SLEJF was established in January 1987, with supportfrom the Sri Lanka government, UN-ESCAP and the UNEP. It’sthe only organization in Sri Lanka to have won the covetedUNEP Global 500 Award. SLEJF Emphasizes monitoring andcoordination, vigorous advocacy of environment education,public awareness, justice principles and practical assistanceprogrammes. The SLEJF mandate covers both professional andpublic interests of journalists.

The Directory compilation process which took placeduring the first half of 2004 involved numerous environmentalconsultations, group meetings and a national workshop. Theprocess was actively supported by the Sri Lanka EnvironmentalInformation Centre as well as several other environmental andMediagroups.
