PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Queensland Presidents Annual Report As read out at the Annual General meeting 10 March 2019

The committee this year has successfully functioned well over the past year achieving many successful events. Combining the role of registrar and treasurer has been a brilliant idea, which has resulted in clear records showing financial membership and numbers. A big thank you for Graham Jones for taking in this role. The Executive Assistant taking over the roles of Web Master, and Publicity Officer

has worked excellently. And when there was a shock resignation of the Bugle Editor, she took this on as well. The Bugle has evolved brilliantly during this time. Many thanks to Dianne Tonkin-Taylor for all the hard work this involved over the last year. My right hand lady and secretary, Lorraine Keenan has done a wonderful job keeping the books straight and keeping me informed of what is necessary for me to be aware of. She has been only a phone call away when needed. I’ve just tried keeping the prices down as low as we could, for dancers at all society events, all has ended up being profitable. Events included cohosting the State Convention at Buderim, EZ Square hosted the Sunshine State Roundup, and the Society Christmas Dance was held at the Gold Coast. Many thanks to all at those clubs who helped with these events. The Society has had 1,000 bumper stickers made with the 1800 number in our Queensland colours of maroon and white. These were distributed to all dancers at the Queensland Convention and all clubs were given further copies to distribute among their members. Later in the agenda we will be calling for clubs to nominate to host the Society events, as was flagged in the previous Bugle.

Outcome from AGM and general meeting in a Nutshell

Lorraine was nominated from the floor to be the secretary and re-elected unopposed. June Lambert was nominated from the floor to be Senior Vice President and was elected unopposed. Colin Carlyle has stepped down as Central Vice President and as such there is now a vacancy in this position. Trevor Keenan was appointed to be auditor. Any financial members wishing for a copy of the treasures/auditors report please email the secretary on squaredanceqld.secretary@gmail.com . Nominations were sought for the upcoming society events. We are still seeking clubs or a group of dancers

who are willing to host the Sunshine State Round Up /Gala Dance and the Christmas Dance. Upbeat

Chaos has kindly offered to host next year’s AGM at Deception Bay once again and this has been accepted

by the committee.

The meeting was concluded in around the hour and even though some people went home, three plus sets

of dancers decided to brave the substantial heat and enjoyed dancing to the excellent calling of Glenn and

Elaine’s.

We enjoyed a great afternoon of Music and Dancing our thanks to Glenn Wilson for his contribution. accident. They were an active couple

in the Square Dance world and will be

Suncoasters Square Dance Club

"Here we are again - struggling through very hot days for this time of the year. Suncoasters are very happy at present to have eleven beginner dancers who appear to be enjoying themselves and we hope they continue on as regular dancers. Our dancers who started last year are continuing on and enjoying dancing on Tuesday nights as well as one keen lady so far joining us for Wednesday dancing with Elaine Davis calling. A few of us are looking forward to travelling to Hervey Bay to join in their "Birthday Bash" on weekend of 22 - 24 March with Brian Hotchkies calling. Burleigh Square Dance Club The warm weather is still with us, thank goodness for air conditioning each Saturday night of

dancing.

On 23rd March we had the pleasure of Frances Hickson-McAlister calling, as Alan Evans took

some time off.

Well done Frances. Although advertising and promoting for beginners and also offering refresher

courses for modern square dancing has been undertaken over the past few weeks, there has

been spasmodic response.

Should anyone be holidaying or visiting the Gold Coast, you are welcome to "drop in" for a dance .

The National Convention is not far away, many will be traveling to Tasmania, safe travels. Looking forward to seeing you on the Dance Floor

EZ Squares News Some of us attended the 30th Birthday Beach Party at Hervey Bay last weekend. A very

enthusiastic crowd danced to challenges put together for us by Brian Hotchkies. He certainly put

us all through our paces. There was a good attendance and we met up with people we know from

other clubs. We were all made most welcome by the committee and members of the Hervey Bay

group. There was lots of wonderful food and great prizes for the raffles.

We look forward to our "Nautical Night" on Tuesday 30th April, where we hope to catch up with

friends again.

Cane Country Squares News Sandy & John Lees “cut the cupcakes” for our 36th birthday party on Friday the 1st of March. Thanks, Sandy, for the beautiful celebration cakes. Dig through your closet for your craziest hat. Friday 5 April is Mad Hatter night. Coming up: our annual Heart Dance on Friday, 3rd May – bring a friend! Hello to all, we held our annual General Meeting on Mon 4th March and our new committee were elected. The committee executive is: Erin Riches - President Jean Malcolm - Vice President Samantha Van Zonneveld – Secretary Janice Haydon ; Treasurer. A big thank you to our outgoing committee for the great effort they did doing the past year. Well our 30th Birthday Bash has now come and gone. It was a roaring

success; we had in excess of 70 people attend each session. Feed back was great and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves, a special thank you to our guest caller Brian Hotchkies his superb calling and jokes kept us all entertained. I would like to thank the dancers from the other clubs for coming along and your presence was greatly appreciated. Good dancing

Rob and I are travelling to the National Convention and visiting NSW and Vic clubs on our way.

Bribie Island Squares will be in recess from 4th April to 2nd May inclusive.

Wednesday Mainstream and Plus workshop at Buderim will be in recess from 3rd April to 8th May

inclusive.

EZ Squares Caboolture will have Glenn Wilson filling in during my absence.
