Commit to ExcellenceReading/LanguageIn reading we’re taking a look at stories about moms. We are learning about the difference between asking questions and telling information. We are learning about “who”, “where” and “what” questions. We connect this to writing as well. We check our writing to make sure that we have answered those questions for our reader. Thanks to all the families that sent in the family posters. We have really enjoyed sharing and looking at those. In language we are beginning to blend words. We are just working with “cvc” words (consonant-vowel-consonant, like cat, mop, jug). You can practice this at home by having your child say the individual sounds and then blending into a word. Please work on the letter names/sounds that your child has not mastered (check the paper handed out at conferences). This will help them become more fluent with blending.
Math/Social StudiesWe will be taking our Topic 4 test this week on comparing numbers 6-10. Our next topic will be on teen numbers (11-20). We are learning to read, write, and show teen

In social studies, we will be learning about our communities—who and what is in them. We will also be looking at community helpers.
