Welcome back to St Michael's Nursery. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year. Firstly we would like towelcome all of the new children and their families to St Michael's Nursery.

Development

We have snack time in our family groups. This is a

valuable time when we can to talk to the children

about their work. Water is available throughout the

session.

Physical Development

This term our themes will be

The children will develop their balance and coordination by building simple obstacle courses, riding bikes, climbing, building with large and small equipment such as the big wooden bricks outside and Duplo inside. They will develop their ability to use smaller equipment such as scissors, pencils, paint brushes and plastic tweezers.

The children will engage in activities to develop

their vocabulary and confidence when speaking

clearly with their family group and when playing.

These activities will include role

play in the home corner, Winter wonderland, Chinese restaurant,

and in small world play with

the dinosaurs, animals, trains,cars, and the dolls house.

Mrs Jarvis will be playing the piano and singing

songs with the children each week.

During this

term your

child will have the

opportunity

to choose a library book to

take home and share with you.

It would be helpful if your son

or daughter could have a book

folder to carry the book in.

We would like to remind parents weuse the outdoor resources in all weathers and on most days so please send your child with appropriate clothing: hats, scarves,gloves and a warm coat.

Through positive praise and encouragement

we will help the children to develop a positive

sense of themselves, form positive

relationships with other adults and children.

They will learn how to manage their feelings

and feel confident in their own abilities. We

will play games that encourage the children to

talk about what they are good at.

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

The children will listen to a wide range of

stories, often with repeated phrases to

encourage them to join in. They will learn

rhymes and songs about their body and a variety of celebrations - Chinese New Year, Lent and Easter. The children willbe introduced to many different sounds within their environment and introduced topatterns in speech.

The children will play games and learn

songs practising counting as well as

making sets using different equipment

such as counters, teddy bears and

sorting people. They will look at

different animals describing their size

and shape. They will use

shape to make patterns

discussing their position

using phrases such as

next to, in front of,

behind.

The children will be introduced to a range of

different media to draw and paint with

including pastels, different paint

techniques and will be encouraged to mix

different media to create new effects.

They will sing songs and begin to use instruments to accompany their singing. They

will also develop their imaginative play through role play.

This area helps the children to make sense of their physical world

and their communities. The children will have an opportunity to share their Christmas holiday news. They will be thinking about seasons - Winter and Spring. They will also look at new life and new beginnings. This term they will also learn about Chinese New Year, Lent and Easter. Children alsohave the opportunity to explore St Michael's woodland area on 'Welly Wednesday' each week. Please provide wellington boots.

These will be

incorporated into our plans

ensuring we meet the needs and

interests of our children.

These are our curriculum plans but we will also be talking to the

children about their ideas and

interests.
