Extreme Earth

TopicAs part of our topic we have been focussing on many different physical features of the earth. Here are some topic maps we created to begin with to show what we already know.

We used atlases to find and compare different biomes and climate zones across the world. We also looked at the major rivers across the world and learnt about how they are formed and their different features.

We combined our computing and geography skills to create cartoon storyboards which show and explain the water-cycle..

In geography 5/6 have also analysed the borders of tectonic plates across the globe and how these create mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes.

We have explored different kinds of settlements across the UK and looked at where they are situated and why on

the map. We found hamlets, villages, market

towns, towns, cities, ports and seaside resorts based in the UK and

researched information about each including the population and

attractions in each.

R.EIn RE we are looking at the big question:

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

We used Paul's poem of love from 1 Corinthians 13 to inspire our artwork and own love poems. We explored

artwork created by Jim Dine and used different techniques, colours and textures to create our own

pieces.

R.EWe explored the

importance and value of love and how Jesus

taught his followers for love. We used Paul's poem of love from 1

In literacy, Year 5 have been writing letters to the parents of children at St Oswald’s regarding the issue of Air Pollution. We shared our thoughts on the topic with the aim

of persuading parents to make a small change in their lives to help improve the quality of the air we breathe around our school.

Y6 have also been looking at air pollution and the causes and consequences of it. We have looked at writing formal essays which were fit for purpose with a clear audience

of adults and parents in mind.

In Year 6 we have been using Mastery Maths to explore ratio and proportion. Some of our questions have been really challenging but we've used excellent resilience skills to pull through.

As well as problem solving, Year 6 have also begun to look at finding the area and perimeter of a variety of compound shapes.

In Y5 we have started our new topic on fractions. So far we have looked at what a fraction is, discussed what equivalent fractions

are and began to compare and order fractions with different denominators.

We have also gathered a range of resources and represented different fractions in a lots of ways.

We have looked at the life cycles of mammals,

amphibians, insects and

birds -finding

similarities and

differences between

them.

In science we have been

exploring the different parts of a plant and how

these parts enable the plant

to reproduce both sexually and asexually.
