J Adventure childcare is the North Shore’s most trusted and enriching after-school program, led by experienced educators and trained staff. We offer childcare for grades K-6 until 6pm, Monday-Friday. Transportation to the J is also available from: Coffin, Eveleth, Glover, Village, Hadley, and Stanley Schools, as well as Swampscott Middle School.

CHILDCARE TO MEET YOUR FAMILIES’ NEEDS!J Adventure for Kindergarteners: our youngest students enjoy a smaller setting with consistent staff, daily enrichment activities in their classroom, and free play, too! Designed specifically to help with their transition to elementary school and to J Adventure. Students in Kindergarten can register for classes or stay in childcare only.

J Adventure for 1st-3rd graders*: Our classic after school model, which balances childcare and enrichment classes, caters to our lower elementary students as they move into exploration outside of the classroom.

J Adventure for 4th-6th graders*: Our older participants now have a room for hanging out, homework, and activities — the best balance of supervision and freedom at the J!*1st-6th graders in J Adventure childcare after 4pm must enroll in enrichment classes (see following pages for class options).

Choose to bring your child to a class or ask to be added to our J Adventure childcare and transportation wait list today!**

We consider all classes to be inclusive

for children with varying abilities and needs. If your child needs support to fully participate, please contact Youth and Family Director, Jessie Stephens,

Parent and Tot Swim This may be your little one’s exciting first dip into the pool and we aim to make it special for everyone involved! Parents bring children (ages 6 months to 3 years) into the pool for a fun lesson with one of our experienced instructors. We’ll sing songs, dance and splash in the water, and while finding comfort in the pool at each child’s individual pace.

Swim diapers are required.

Level 1: ComfortBeginner swimmers learn basic swimming skills in this fun-focused class. We’ll practice blowing bubbles, floating, and kicking. The goal of this level is to get comfortable in the water and learn to enjoy swim!

Level 2: Independence Swimmers learn to swim independently in front crawl (with beginner rotary breathing) and beginner back crawl. Participants will also be introduced to proper breast stroke arm motion.

Minimum Requirements: Ability to swim 5-yards independently in front crawl, float, and blow bubbles.

Level 3: Technique Swimmers work to improve front crawl and back crawl stroke technique. Participants will be introduced to kneeling dives and standing dives, breaststroke and dolphin kick.

Minimum Requirements: Ability to swim 10-yards with face in the water and stream-line on back for 5-10 yards.

Level 4: Safety and Refinement Swimmers work to refine their strokes, while also learning important water and boating safety. We will achieve basic requirements making these swimmers eligible for most sailing camps, including swimming 100-yards freestyle, treading water for two minutes, floating in the prone position for two minutes, and basic boating safety.

Minimum Requirements: Ability to swim 25-yards freestyle, 25-yards backstroke, beginner breaststroke and dolphin kick.

Advanced Swim Techniques Swimmers will continue to refine their swim technique, working toward four legal strokes, starts, and turns. Goals for Advanced Swim Techniques participants will be to complete a 100-Individual Medley and 200-Freestyle, the entrance requirements for USA C.
