BRAIN TRAINING ACTIVITIES
Spring Brainy Kidz@SimsNewsletter
Another month had passed and it’s been a September full of learning,
enjoyment and experiences. Our little geniuses had amazing time with
our brain training activities this month. The children adored the memory
game and eye training activities that honed their cognitive skills. Our
fast-speed flash cards are effective memory-aid tools that helped our
children learn new materials quickly.

Story: Mira and the Goose Theme: Clothes and Kindness
Every second we spent this month was indeed full of fun and learning. Our
theme for the month “Mira and the Goose” have taught and instilled in our
children good moral values such as honesty and kindness to others. They
also learned more things about clothes and geese. Oh, we’ve had unusual
and wonderful learning experiences with our song “Honest, Polite, Share
and Respect”.

Role Play (Mira and the Goose)
Nursery 2 September 2018
Once, there was a
girl named Mira.
She worked for a
rich lady. In the
morning, she had
to wash all the
clothes and in the
evening, she had
to wash the pots
and pans by the
river.
One morning, while Mira was washing the clothes. A dress fell into
the river. She began to cry and a goose heard her. And the goose
helped Mira.
The goose saw that Mira was a good and honest
girl. So she gave the gold and silver dresses to
Mira.

Our Little Mathematicians
We believe that when we hear the word
MATH, it means learning while enjoying.
This month, our concept is about
ADDITION. We had done addition in
many fun ways. Our little
mathematicians mastered “putting
objects together” so that they will get the
sum of the items. Our children explored
and learned with great enthusiasm.

WE PLAY, LEARN, AND GROW
We drop the ball, then it
says dribble, dribble!
We dribble down but the ball moves
vertical and sideward.
We don’t mind the fireball heat of the sun that shines brilliantly unto us, what matters is
that we’re enjoying while learning the things that surround us.
This month, our children were introduced to dribbling wherein they tried their best to
dribble the ball with two hands, with one hand, with one hand while alternating
between sitting and standing, while hopping, while skipping and while jumping. Good
job kids!
Dribbling!

A bright sunny day, wherein the sky
is a soft shade of blue and there
is slight breeze in the air will make
our day. These children bounced the

after every game. They said that
playing is always fun, as shown in

From the story Mira and the Goose, our children were introduced to
gold and silver colours. So in connection, we performed a
waterproof experiment using gold and silver coins. We put the coins
inside the plastic, cloth pouch and paper bag and dip it into a tub of
water. The children predicted which of the three materials will keep
the coins the driest. After a minute, our experiment came out that
the plastic kept the coins dry while the coins inside the cloth pouch
and paper bag became so wet.

Sink or Float
In the story Mira and the Goose, the dress that Mira was washing floated away. With our
sink and float experiment, the children distinguished which things float and sink.
They also learned that:
➢ Things float when they are positively buoyant, or less dense than the fluid in which they are
sitting. This does not mean that an object has to be lighter than the fluid, as in the case of a
boat; objects just need to have a greater ratio of empty space to mass than the fluid.
➢ If an object weighs more than an equal volume of water, it is more dense and will sink, and if
it weighs less than an equal volume of water, it is less dense and will float.

Mid-Autumn Festival
We may have different culture, heritage, and tradition but that won’t stop us to
celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival as one family united by love. For Chinese, Mid-
Autumn means family reunion and peace. It is celebrated when the moon is
believed to be in its biggest and fullest. A full moon is a symbol of prosperity,
happiness, and family reunion.
The Mid-Autumn Celebration was full of fun specially when we walked around the
neighbourhood with our lanterns. We also had the chance to taste different kinds
of mooncakes from our friends.

What’s The Parent’s Role With Homework?
Spring Brainy Kidz@SimsNewsletter
Kids are more successful in school when parents take an active interest in their
homework — it shows kids that what they do is important.
Here are some tips to guide the way:
Know the teachers — and what they're looking for. Attend school events, such as
parent-teacher conferences, to meet your child's teachers. Ask about their
homework policies and how you should be involved.
Set up a homework-friendly area. Make sure kids have a well-lit place to complete
homework. Keep supplies — paper, pencils, glue, scissors — within reach.
Schedule a regular study time. Some kids work best in the afternoon, following a
snack and play period; others may prefer to wait until after dinner.
Help them make a plan. On heavy homework nights or when there's an especially
hefty assignment to tackle, encourage your child break up the work into
manageable chunks. Create a work schedule for the night if necessary — and
take time for a 15-minute break every hour, if possible.
Keep distractions to a minimum. This means no TV, loud music, or phone calls.
(Occasionally, though, a phone call to a classmate about an assignment can be
helpful.)
Make sure kids do their own work. They won't learn if they don't think for themselves
and make their own mistakes. Parents can make suggestions and help with
directions. But it's a kid's job to do the learning.
Be a motivator and monitor. Ask about assignments, quizzes, and tests. Give
encouragement, check completed homework, and make yourself available for
questions and concerns.
Set a good example. Do your kids ever see you diligently balancing your budget or
reading a book? Kids are more likely to follow their parents' examples than their
advice.
Praise their work and efforts. Post an aced test or art project on the refrigerator.
Mention academic achievements to relatives.
If there are continuing problems with homework, get help. Talk about it with your
child's teacher. Some kids have trouble seeing the board and may need glasses;
others might need an evaluation for a learning problem or attention disorder.
