I am originally from Sahuarita, Arizona and attended the University of Arizona in Tucson. There I received my B.S. in Psychology and found my love for research. I am currently working under the guidance of Dr. Jinyan Fan concentrating on socially desirable responding on personality tests. A recently budding area of research interest includes the interplay of attachment styles, newcomer socialization, and social network building. After graduation, my hope is to gain valuable applied experience, which I can then carry forward into an academic setting.

James Tornabene I grew up near Houston, TX and started fighting fire in Texas City, TX. I recently graduated with an MA in I/O Psychology from Louisiana Tech after resigning as the Fire Chief in Ruston, LA. Previously, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Administrative Leadership from Texas A&M - Texarkana, and an AS in Fire Ser-vice Management from Southern Arkansas University. I currently work for the Personnel Board of Jefferson County in Birmingham and commute to class. My research interests include person - job fit and job stress. I hope to combine my education and experience into a consulting opportunity for the emergency response community.

Lu Zheng

I earned my M.S. majoring in social and organizational psychology from Zhejiang University, China, in 2013. Then, I came to the U.S. to pursue my PhD in an I/O program. I like the area of I/O because I believe this psychological branch can make employees more adaptive in their organizations. My current research interests include applicant faking in personnel selection, and how to apply attachment theory in the organizational field. For now, I am enjoying life as a graduate student, and I look forward to achieving my goal of becoming an I/O psychologist!

Welcome our newest faculty member, Dr. Jesse Michel!

What are you most excited about as a new Auburn faculty member?

If I have to choose just one thing, I’m most excited to work with a terrific group of students and faculty. After all, the people make the place!

What are your academic research interests?

My research interests generally revolve around (1) the dynamics between work and nonwork domains (e.g., work-family conflict) and (2) the role of personality and individual differences in the workplace. I have published on other substantive (e.g., psychological and contextual processes underlying organizational deviance and workplace aggression) and methodological topics (e.g., meta-analytic structural equation modeling), but my primary focus is work-nonwork and individual differences.

What courses are you hoping to teach?

I’m really looking forward to teaching the I-O Research Methods course. I have a lot of experience teach-ing graduate courses over the last few years, including seminars on selection, leadership, motivation, work-family, organizational psychology, and quantitative methods. Of these I would most like to teach semi-nars on work-family (or a more general OHP course) and/or organizational psychology. Depending on student interest and departmental need, an applied meta-analysis course would also be fun.

What are some of your upcoming goals (academic or personal)?

My primary academic goal is to build my research program at Auburn. I’m looking forward to mentoring and conducting research projects leading to publication. As for personal goals, I want to provide a smooth transition to life in Auburn for my family. We are all very excited to make the move to a college town that better fits our needs and lifestyle.

What do you want students to know about you?

My door is always open if you ever need anything.

What are some of your extracurricular hobbies/activities?

I’ve found that as my number of life roles increase (e.g., spouse, parent), my extracurricular hobbies and activities change. My present hobbies and activities generally revolve around quality time with my wife and son (e.g., trips to state and national parks, historic home tours, concerts and plays).

Who is your new favorite football team (I’ll give you a hint: it better be Auburn)?

To be honest, I’ve never been a huge football fan, though I did enjoy attending games when I was an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota. However, my new favorite football team is clearly the Au-burn Tigers! My family and I are looking forward to attending occasional football games and other univer-sity events.

The objective of Auburn University's I/O psychology program is to produce psychologists well-trained in scientific methods applied to the industrial/organizational environment. Graduates of the program will be prepared for work in academic, research, and/or applied settings, depending on the objectives of each student.

The program features strong preparation in research methodology, statistics, measurement, and general psychology, as well as course work in the broad areas of industrial and organizational psychology. Elective courses are designed to allow students flexibility in developing their own areas of specialization. Practicum placements provide students with opportunities to gain research and applied experience in a variety of organizational settings.
