RIGHT OF WAYThose miles and miles of street Right-of-Way (ROW) that you drive by are maintained by the Parks, Recreation, & Library Services Department? That’s right, those tree-lined and landscaped ROW areas are the responsibility of the Parks ROW Division…all 512 acres and 15,000 trees. Eight staff trim trees at least twice a year, apply weed control measures, clear streets and sidewalks of wind-storm debris, trim palm trees and oversee a thousand areas where outside contracted maintenance occurs. Additionally, the ROW Division receives nearly 1,000 calls a year from other departments, agencies and citizens requesting assistance with ROW issues. Being in the Parks, Recreation and Library Services Department allows this small work group access to trucks, loaders, trailers and the occasional man-power assistance to keep your roads and sidewalks usable and safe.

PARK RANGERSAnother small work group assisting you in our parks are Park Rangers. There are three full-time and eight part-time Park Rangers who share the responsibilities of being in your parks 365 days a year. They provide assistance and information to park visitors, ensure that the reserved facilities are available and clean for users, enforce park rules, regulations and policies, monitor special events, take control of found property, open and close ballfields for citizens with reservations, check parks for safety and vandalism and generate work orders. Their job is often difficult so give them a big “Thanks for being in our parks” the next time you see a Park Ranger.
