This is the true story of WilliamCowper, the famous 18th centurypoet and hymn writer who, likemany people both then and now, suffered bouts of prolonged andsevere depression. It was duringone these bouts of severe depres-sion that one night Cowperdecided to end his life andtravelled to London Bridge in orderto do so.
However, as Cowper was lookingdown at the dark icy water of theRiver Thames swirling far belowhim he was suddenly andstrangely, and for no apparentreason, overwhelmed by a tremen-dous feeling of love, and of beingloved, which seemed to surgethrough his body creating thesensation of almost physicalwarmth.
It was in that moment that Cowperchanged his mind and, turningaway from the bridge, called ahorse drawn cab that was passingby at that exact moment.
“Where do you want to go?” askedthe driver. “Just take me on ajourney through London” Cowperreplied. And so for the next fewhours Cowper travelled throughthe dark streets of London, andfrom the comfort of his cab heregained his wits and in deep con-templation reflected on what hehad almost done.
After several hours Cowper told thecab driver to stop and that hewould walk home. On opening thedoor of the cab however, Cowperto his amazement found himselfstanding outside the door of hisown home.
That same night Cowper wrote oneof his most famous hymns theopening line of which is an oftenquoted:
‘God moves in a mysterious wayhis wonders to perform’.
Cowper continues by saying:‘Deep in unfathomable mines of
never ending skillHe treasures up His bright designsand works his sovereign willYe fearful saints fresh courage takethe clouds ye so much dreadAre big with mercy and shall breakin blessings on your head’.
Cowper was able to write these re-markable lines because, despitehis distress, he had responded tothe surprising and unexpectedlove of God that had been shownto him in his hour of need. AndGod is still showing his love, notjust to people who are in need butto a world in need.
This was supremely demonstratedin the person of Jesus Christ, andin his death for the sins of the worldon the cross, so that we, throughfaith in Christ like William Cowper, might one day have the experienceof being brought safely home.

NEW BUILD HOMES (Part 1) – the legalprocess for buying a brand new home ‘offplan’ can differ slightly from that of onethat has been lived in before.
Firstly, acquiring your property is usually fairlystraightforward involving payment of a reservation feeto the developer, possibly at their site office, to reservethat property for you. Once reserved you may be giventhe option of choosing some fixtures and fittings yourselfor having a conservatory added on. Voila, you areinvolved in the process of buying your new home andthe chances are you have not yet involved the servicesof your solicitor and may have parted with some cash!
As a Solicitor I would sound a note of caution at thisstage as the monies paid as a ‘reservation’, especially ifgiven direct to the builder, may not be secure if say theywere to become insolvent, although if you are dealingwith a larger or a PLC company you should be able tofeel more confident that your money is safe for the timebeing. Let your Solicitor know if you have paid a‘deposit’ and provide her with a copy of anyagreement signed, any additional items included andwhether you have been offered any incentives to buythe property, as this is all relevant information.
Once the property is reserved you may only be given anestimation of its likely completion date, which is usuallya short period of time (sometimes as little as a week)from when the property has ‘passed’ the Local AuthorityBuilding Officer’s inspection and the Certificate ofCompletion has been issued. This means that you willneed to have your funding, including your mortgage, inplace and ready to be called up at short notice.
Making sure that everything is organised well inadvance and your Solicitor is well informed can helpsmooth the process and give you peace of mind. If youwould like more information on purchasing a ‘new build’home please call:

Parliament Blog”“
Firstly I mustrecord my thanksto everyone whogave me theirsupport at the
recent election and pledge mycommitment to taking forwardthe issues that matter to thepeople of Moray, and toScotland as a whole.
The Scottish Parliament isbuilding up its own traditionand history and part of that isthe connection between theparliament and the people itrepresents. In the official
opening ceremony on 1st July,Local Heroes nominated fromeach constituency will takepart in proceedings and I amdelighted to be welcomingForres Community WardenMargaret Cowie, who has beennominated by the people inMoray.
Margaret's dedication to herlocal community is recognisedin the many activities that sheputs her heart and soul intoand she is highly deserving ofthe nomination.
I had the great
pleasure recently,
of joining
members of the Aberlour
community for the re-dedica-
tion of the town's war
memorial, which is a focal
point for the community,
situated in the square.
The Alice Littler Trustees and
the wider Aberlour community
are doing fantastic work main-
taining important landmarks in
and around the town, and the
War Memorial is a really
excellent example of their
efforts.
It is well worth a look if you're
passing through and there are
some excellent local shops and
places to stop for a bite and
some relaxation. It's great to
see so much activity in our
communities, especially with
projects like the war memorial
restoration, which really pulls
the community together.

“ ”“The Scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.”
How good is good enough?Just how good does a person have to be to earn eternal life? According to God’s standard (the only standard that really counts) a person would have to live an absolutely perfect life to earn eternal life. Not one lie; not one bad thought; not one disrespectful word to their parents, etc. Perfect.
Do you think you have fullled and maintained this strict standard? Romans 3:19 says, “...what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.” You see we have all broken God’s law and the whole world stands guilty before God! No one can argue that they have lived a perfect life. No one … not you, not me, no one.
We don’t like to think about it, but it’s true …we all have sinned – broken God’s law (Romans 3:10, 23). We have ALL oended a holy God, who will by no means pass by sin.
How bad is too bad?Maybe you think you have sinned so much that there is no forgiveness for you. God is Holy, but He loves to forgive. God loves you and is not willing that any should perish. He showed his love toward us in that “while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
To those who turn from their sin and receive Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, He assures us, “I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:34). . We do not have to go to that place of torment which the Lord Jesus calls hell.
NO ONE IS SO GOOD THAT THEY DON’T NEED TO BE SAVED. NO ONE IS SO BAD THAT THEY CAN’T BE SAVED.
So, none are without sin, but none are without hope, either. The Lord wants “all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4). A sinner in Bible times asked the question “What do I have to do to be saved?” The answer was simple, yet profound, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31).
On the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ was satisfying the just demands of God’s law against sinners - He was made sin that we might, through him, be made righteous. In order for God to no longer see us as guilty hell-deserving sinners, and t us for heaven, we each need by faith to personally accept that Christ died in our place. God’s redeeming love for sinners is found only in Christ, and the sinner is out of Christ.
Put your trust in the nished work (death, burial, and resurrection) of the Lord Jesus Christ, and God will save you by faith in His Son and give you the gift of the Holy Spirit to enable you to live for Him and know Him as your Lord.“...if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Be done with your pride and bow your knee to the Lord Jesus. Only when a sinner turns from his sin and bows to Jesus as Lord and Saviour, can he have eternal life.
No matter how good you think you are or how bad you think you are, the Lord saves all those who come to Him in faith. The Lord Jesus says “ him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).
Reject Him no longer. Eternity in Hell is a long time to remember that you rejected Christ.
Galatians 3:22

COAST is a group of 12 textile artists who work mainly in Morayshire although some of the members are now living and working in the Central Belt. Our original group was quite small, a bunch of textile students at Moray College, from diverse backgrounds, all juggling jobs and families but with a common passion for creating beautiful pieces of art from fabric, thread, wool, plastic, paint, paper, buttons, rivets, rubber gloves - anything at all could be re-created and made into a work of art. Thursday was our day at college when we could meet, talk, experiment and create. At home, kitchens , spare rooms, utility rooms were taken over with textile equipment - even family caravans were turned into studios. Washing machines, microwaves and food mixers were hijacked for felting, dyeing or paper making.
When we achieved our Diplomas in Embroidery with City and Guilds, some of us felt that we wanted to continue making things whether it was wall hangings, jewelry, accessories or clothing so we formed COAST. The name means Creating Original and Stitched Textiles. And that is exactly what we do. We all take our inspiration from the landscape of Moray, from the hills, the forests, the sea - and of course the river Spey. Moray is evident in all our work, not just the designs but the textures and colours also. Several of us make felt which is a truly magical process whereby the raw material of wool is transformed through water, soap, heat, friction and a good deal of hard work (felters don't need to go to the gym!) into a luxurious fabric which can then be cut, stitched with other fabrics and then re-created again into something new. Other members find the same 'magic' in weaving or working with fabric, paint and stitching. Three members of the group were nominated for awards of excellence by City and Guilds, three were also accepted for the Charles Henry Foyle Trust Award exhibition. Two of us were invited to become members of EDGE, a prestigious Scottish textile group. Another member has pieces all over the world- including Cairo Museum and an Aberdeen Hospice.
We have held four exhibitions to date, two at Elgin Museum and two at the Greenhall Gallery, Craigellachie. This year the title of our exhibition is appropriately 'The Spirit of the Spey'. It is to be held in The Great Hall at Baxters, Fochabers from 24th - 30th July, 10am till 4pm. Admission is free. Be inspired!

The landscape of the bay has the
most magical quality of unrivalled
beauty and charm. Competing
forces of wind, waves and
currents moulded the coasts soft
sand and shingle into the
sheltered haven we have today.
The name Findhorn comes from
the Gaelic for the White sands of
Ireland, referring to the Gaels who
long ago settled the peninsula.
The present village of Findhorn is
the third settlement to bear that
name, the last one being lost in
the late 17th Century storms.
In 1998 the bay was designated

farming Local is best!
Fresh vegetables, in-season produce all locally grown and hand delivered directly to your door. Sounds too good to be true? This service is now available to the local community through the development of the 'Veg Box Scheme'. Many individual farms have began to offer these types of products, selections of fresh fruit and veg straight from the farm to your household, missing out the middle man giving you more value for money. Local farmer Jock Scott is no different and after years of supplying large supermarket chains with a variety of products, established the company 'Scotgro' in 2009, providing the Inverness-shire and Moray with hand-picked produce from their farm at Broombank, Auldearn. The company’s main objective is to ensure the freshest products are delivered each week to their customers. Unlike supermar-ket produce, the seasonal vegetables, and fruit during the summer months, only ever travel the distance between the farm and your doorstep. Providing the customers with a selection of only the freshest, locally grown goods, at a competitive price. What's available from Scotgro? Scotgro offer individual boxes to suit each customers household, ranging from the 'Mini - box' packed for an individual or couple, 'Standard box' which can accom-modate two to four people up to the 'crate' option which contains enough
produce for a family of up to seven people. Delivery of the boxes to your house can be arranged on a weekly, fortnight or one off basis. You also have the handy option of being able to pause your deliveries if you are having a week away or feeling 'vegged-out' Another handy element of Scotgro is that you have the option to enter which vegetables you enjoyed and those which you would prefer in your box, ensuring you wont receive anything to your household which will go to waste. Check out their website to view a full range of produce on offer, and if you think this quick and easy way to get your weekly supply of vegetables is for you, order one online now - www.scotgro.com

Italy is a wonderful country due to its fabulous climate, enviable gastronomy, fantastic wines, beautiful scenery, magnificent architecture and rich heritage. It has long been a favoured haunt for British travellers. Playgrounds for the rich and famous for centuries, and home to poets, artists and composers, the Italian Lakes are areas of outstanding natural beauty. The largest of the Italian lakes Lake Garda boasts fjord like scenery in the north with gently sloping hills covered with vineyards, olive groves and lemon orchards to the south. Visitors from all over Europe enjoy swimming in the clear waters and enjoy the atmosphere. It boasts a wonderful Mediterranean climate with mild summers and mellow winters, and due to its clear clean waters, is a particular favourite for swimmingHistoric steamers ply their trade between the resorts. Boat and hydrofoil trips are common all around Lake Garda. The Italian Lakes provide opportunities for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing, scuba diving, trekking, tennis and golf. During the summer months the open-air arena in Verona plays host to works by great composers such as Rossini, Verdi, Bizet and Puccini and a visit there can be arranged from wherever you stay in the Lakes District. The Valpolicella region runs north from Verona to the shores of Lake Garda. It has an excellent climate and rolling countryside dotted with cypress and mulberry trees. Gardone Riviera is a pretty resort town situated on the Gulf of Salo on the western shores of the Lake. Sheltered by the mountains, it is blessed with a wonderful subtropical climate. As well as cafes, boutiques and artistic trattorias, there are attractive parks, a lakeside promenade and botanical gardens. Direct flights are available to Lake Garda from Inverness and Aberdeen on selected dates, either to stay by the Lakeside for a week, or to visit Verona, Assisi, Rome, Florence, Siena and San Gimignano as well.

“Why do we never see young Robins?” is a question I am frequently asked at this time of year. Well the answer is simple, we do! But they are not the red breasted version that we are used to seeing.
When young Robins leave the nest they are a spotty version of the adult, a light brown bird covered with pale cream spots. It will retain this plumage until the early autumn when it will start to produce the tell tale red feathers of its first full plumage.Look for the adult Robins bringing in food, usually caterpillars and stuffing the beaks of their hungry brood. You may have a number of chicks in very close proximity to each other
in a hedge or flitting around on a lawn. This brings me to a very important point for this time of year. If you see a young bird on its own in your garden, street or local park, please do
not feel tempted to “rescue” it. Unless the bird is in imminent danger near a road, water or a cat is approaching then leave it well alone. The adult birds will be very near by watching you and getting ready to fly down and tend for their chick as soon you leave. It is very rare for a fledged chick to be left unattended by the adults, it’s just you won’t see them.
Many young birds have very different plumages to the adults - young Blackbirds with their rust brown head, back and breast, Goldfinches with grey faces instead of the distinctive red of the adult, and Blue tits with bright yellow faces all present the birder with a whole new set of challenges in identification and which makes Summer one of the most fascinating times of the season.
So until next month “Good Birding”

I have had a bit of an obsession with seafood in general and shellfish in particular for some years now having first tasted a delicious spider crab in a French Restaurant in St Malo in Brittany.
The experience is best described as “interactive” involving many weird and wonderful implements to extract as much of the tender meat as possible. It can also be a lengthy process and is therefore best shared with some good friends and good bottle of wine. Shortly after this experience I tasted my first lobster and fully understand why it is often called the King of meats.Imagine my delight when someone told me that fresh local shellfish including lobsters were available near to Lossie-mouth. I knew that the coastal waters along the Moray Firth were a rich breeding ground for shellfish but had always been told that it was difficult if not impossible to buy these products locally as they were all sold for export.Well – the great news is that I was completely wrong. Whilst much of the local shellfish caught along the Moray Firth Coast does indeed go for export there is now a shop outlet in Covesea
Café, near Lossiemouth selling cooked and raw Crab, Lobster, Langoustine and Smoked Mackerel. And who is responsible for this – one lone lossie loon – Dan Flett. Born and Bred in Lossie, Dan has been Creel Fishing (Creel is the local term for the pots used to catch shellfish) for some 40 odd years (starting after and before school at the age of 13!). Local Teacher, Jimmy Stevens, used to pick up the young Dan and take him out in all weathers and taught many of the best fishing locations, which Dan still uses today. Dan recalls that his first unofficial salary for a weeks work was £36 which in 1973 was a small fortune for a 13 year old!Dan was kind enough to invite me out on one of his fishing trips, which was
certainly an experience. Dan shared his real passion for shellfish – who else without a passion would put in back breaking shifts of 12 hours a day (minimum!)? For Dan, Creel fishing is not about the money – whilst he is able to make a living – it is more about using wisely local produce that is just waiting to be enjoyed. Dan has a cheerful and

indeed very healthy disposition which he puts down to the outdoor lifestyle, and the only thing that caused a furrowed brow was discussion about illegal fishers who did not return female’s (hen’s) back to the sea when laden with eggs which shows Dan’s commitment to the future of the Lobster stock.Whilst lobster fishing is indeed hard work Dan sees it as a labour of love and whilst he has had the occasional break for Deep Sea Trawler fishing – his heart has always been with the Creels – and from a personally biased perspective – may this long be the case!Dan’s shellfish may be purchased from Covesea Cafe, Lossiemouth 01343 815454 or direct from Dan himself at the harbourside by calling 01343 813624 or 07854861569.
