Sales of sport apparel totaled $22.8 billion Sales of athletic footwear rose to $9.73 billion,
up from $9.34 billion in 2002. Sports licensed product sales topped $12.1
billion. Sports equipment sales reached #17.5 billion. Exercise equipment sales topped $3.8 billion,
golf ranked second with sales of $2.42 billion. Sports and fitness are BIG business!
Sport Spectator Interest
Attendance at sports events is rising and approaching all-time highs.
Men’s and women’s NCAA Final Four basketball tournaments were sold out.
Nearly 20 million fans attended regular season NBA games.
The media plays an enormous role in the world of sports.
Sports and the Media Networks paid $17.6 billion to
the NFL for broadcast rights through 2005.
NBC paid $2.6 billion for broadcast rights for the Olympic Games through 2008.
CBS paid $6 billion to telecast the NCAA men’s basketball tournament for 11 years.
