HOW YOUR BILL IS ESTIMATED ONNON-READING MONTHS

Your meters are read once every two months by our meterreaders. During the months when your meters are not read, weestimate your utilities consumption by taking the average daily

usage between the last two actual meter readings. When themeters are next read, the under or over-estimation in your billswill be adjusted accordingly.

    Here is an example:

Actual meter reading for 5 March 53,678Actual meter reading for 5 May 54,794Actual electricity consumption from 1,116 kWh5 March to 5 May (54,794 - 53,678)Number of days for the billing period  62 daysfrom 5 March to 5 MayAverage daily consumption 18 kWh(1,116 units / 62 days)

As meters are read every other month, your meter will not be

read in June in the example above. Your estimated consumpt ionwill be calculated by multiplying the above daily consumptionby the number of days in the current billing period.

Number of days for the billing period 31 daysfrom 6 May to 5 JuneEstimated usage for the billing period 558 kWhfrom 6 May to 5 June (18 units x 31 days)

When the meters are next read in July, you will be billed theusage between May and July readings, less what was already

    billed in June.

Actual meter reading for May 54,794Actual meter reading for July 56,036

Consumption from May to July 1,242 kWh(56,036 - 54,794)Consumption already billed in June bill 558 kWhBalance consumption that will be billed 684 kWhin July bill (1,242 - 558)

When your meters are next read in July, your July bill show a signifcant increase compared to the Junebecause it reects:

    A. The higher consumption in July, andB. An adjustment of the under-estimated consumption

    June.

Other possible causes of a high bill include:

    • Higher usage due to school holidays or more occupbeing home during the period,

    • More days in the billing period which can vary from 232 days,

    • Tariff changes,• New or additional appliances installed, and/or • More frequent baths or higher laundry loads.

Utilities consumption varies from month to month, resulting in fuctuations in the monthly utilities billamount. Several factors can affect your consumption.

      HOT WEATHER

During the hotter months of the year, usually from April toAugust, there tends to be increased usage of appliances suchas air-conditioners and fans. People would take more showersas well, resulting in higher household electricity and waterconsumption.

Even when daily activities and lifestyle remain the same duringthis period, electricity consumption of appliances such as air-conditioners could be higher. Compared to cooler months, hotter weather and higher outdoor air temperatures create agreater load on air-conditioners in order to maintain the desiredindoor temperature.

      ADJUSTMENT ON ESTIMATED

    CONSUMPTION

Utilities meters are read once every other month. For example,if your meters are read in May, they will not be read again untilJuly. Your June bill will be estimated by multiplying the averagedaily consumption, calculated from the actual meter readingsrecorded in March and May, by the number of days in thecurrent billing period (please see overleaf for an example).

Compared to the cooler weather in April and May, June is arelatively hotter month that usually sees an increase in electricityusage. Hence, the estimated usage for June (based on actualmeter readings recorded in March and May) could likely belower than your actual consumption.

For instance, if an air-conditioner is set at 24°C and theaverage ambient (i.e. outdoor) temperature increases from26°C to 28°C, the air-conditioner will consume more energy tomaintain the indoor air temperature at 24°C.
